You're 100% sure that the government is shady but don't believe in any conspiracies despite the overwhelming amount of evidence for many of them? Lol you're so fucking retarded it's ridiculous. The government puts sodium fluoride in our water supply and high fructose corn syrup in virtually all foods which actually contains a large amount of mercury. Sodium fluoride and mercury affect your ability to think. Some people, like your friends and myself, are more resistant to this than most people. You are more than likely right, I just have never met or experienced a catholic like him ever in my life, it's quite shocking to see such a decent person being the head of the Catholic church. I have never known a single person of Catholic faith that believes atheist will go to heaven, if you know even one Catholic that believes that other than the pope I will take your word.

Most of my family is Catholic, and I don't think many of them would think that atheists are eternally damned, so long as they lived a good life. Shit, most Catholics disagree with Church doctrine across the board, from premarital sex to contraception to female clergy. Abortion would fall in the middle, some would be okay with it for only medical reasons, rape or incest, some would be opposed in all situations. Generally the congregants are half a century ahead of Church doctrine. At least that's my experience in Canada, I would imagine it varies from country to country.

Anecdotal again, but Catholics tend to more tolerant than a lot of other Christian sects. They have a rigid church structure, and the church has antiquated views on sex primarily, but they don't as a rule believe in flaunting their religion compared to say Baptists. Catholic's whole thing is everything is off limits and you should feel guilty about it.

BurnemWizfyre's anecdote completely doesn't jive with my experience. Literally every Catholic I've ever met has said that being Catholic is not a requirement for getting into heaven. More so they don't even suggest a requirement in Jesus Christ. It's the Baptist's who pull that shit constantly and you see holding up signs outside sporting events and asking you if you've found Jesus at your workplace.

The Mexicans are much more devout than say midwestern Catholics. Around here they're basically only Catholic on Sunday. The rest of the week is do whatever the hell they want. Nobody except the really strange people actually go about their daily lives thinking whether they're following the religion or not.

Basically everyone around here feels good as long as they show up on Sunday and go to confession once every so many years. Lutherans are more or less the same way. Every other Protestant religion is where you run into the real annoying Jesus freaks.
