But with 1000mbit service? You'd be a lot less likely to blaze past those limit on a standard 20mbit service than you would on 1000. I get that most things you download still aren't going to be at 1000mbps, since the host servers probably don't even have that beefy of a connection, but once more and more people get up to speed with that you'll be able to blaze through it pretty damn fast.

It's like giving you a Lamborghini with a gas tank that only holds 1 gallon of gas.
Impossible to find from just the site, but Google found it. But yes, 1tb upload/download combined limit.

On what level? That will do nothing on the national level. We need a reform to how voting works and how districts are determined before more parties are mathematically feasible.

Why would that "do nothing"? If you keep electing the people that benefit from the corrupt system, the corrupt system isn't going anywhere.

No 3rd candidate can get elected. You're not going to get enough people to stop voting for them for it to make a difference in the direction you want. In our current system successful 3rd party candidates take votes away from their side of the political spectrum between the two main parties. Perot hurt Bush, Nader hurt Gore. The pattern will be repeated. If you could convince the population to vote anything but D/R you'd still get a rainbow of candidates with no clear majority.

This whole video should be watched to frame the issue properly, but the 3rd party issue is targeted at 5:00.

We need run-off voting to give 3rd party candidates power in elections EVEN IF THEY DON'T WIN. The ruling party will have to respect the desires of the minority parties in their coalition so that when the next election comes up you continue to choose coalition members as your multiple choices. Run off voting would give the tea party, green party, justice party, socialist party, libertarian party, etc. more power and a clear demonstration of their demographic influence among the people. They might even take over as the leaders of their ideological coalitions.

The only reason that third party candidates can't win is that people think that they can't. I agree that it's unlikely to happen, but I vote 3rd party anyway because I don't care if the Republican shill or the Democrat shill gets in so I choose not to vote for someone that is working for their campaign contributors and not for me. It's the only way that the system is going to be changed, unlikely as it may be. The fact that I do it is meaningless, but I'd rather cast a meaningless vote for change than a meaningless vote for the status quo.

I voted for 3rd party candidates for several election in a row, until I figured out I was just wasting my time, so now I don't vote. I'm a horrible American, but fuck it, I'm not standing in line for half an hour to cast a vote that doesn't matter. I voted for Perot in 96, Nader in 2000, Nader again in 2004, and haven't voted since. I do turn out for local/city elections occasionally if there is something on the ballot that I'm passionate about, but I don't hit every one by any means.

It's ok, I don't vote either. I get scolded by people every year. I'd vote 3rd party but it's essentially just a waste of my time.

I'm surprised at people coming out to not voting, myself included. It's usually something I don't talk about even though I will gladly debate politics with people.

Well, voter turnout is like 60% on presidential years and 40% on midterms so it's not exactly rare.

I keep it mostly private just because people get all pissy about it. They keep spitting about it being my american right. Two way street there.

Oh hell, I thought I was the only one. I never talk about it, but also stay out of any political discussions or debates. I'm 31, and have never voted in my life. I think I'm registered to vote by default when getting a new driver's license or something.

Feels so good to talk about it bros.

I've voted every year since 1993. I've never been one of those that pulls the if you don't vote you can't complain bullshit. I really am starting to feel that it has just been a huge waste of my fucking time. Neither party represents my views and it's all bought and payed for anyway. I was stupid enough to think that protecting the internet would be something that both parties could agree on. If they can't even get together to represent us on that then every other issue is pretty much impossible.

Yeah I don't fault anyone for not voting when you look at the reality of our choices. I still vote, but just because you have either a Dem who is corrupt as all fuck or a Republican who is legit fucking crazy. One of our recent gubernatorial elections here had one candidate., who went on to win, who 100% believes the Earth is 6000 years old, that we are living in the end times right now, and that women should basically just stay in the kitchen. I find myself voting against someone rather than for them. So it goes.

But it has fuck all to do with third parties. No third parties run here so I don't even have that option.

Wait a minute

It all starts at the local level; you guys mention Nader and Perot and whatever, but that's a presidential election, that shit is way way too 'powerful' to go with an independent yet.

A lot of independent success is on that 'small' scale of government. City Council, Mayor, etc; those are positions that a lot of the times are ran without opposition at all and those are the ones that 'deal' with Comcast, Verizon, etc. Get some real independents on those local city councils and you'll see their grasp on cities dwindle.

Yea, that's why I began with "on what level?" We have plenty of very low level non-partisan (so they say) representatives around here. It should be possible to push that up a few notches locally.
