Indy has some start up fiber company that I'm 99% sure will go nowhere
Agree. If it is the one I'm thinking about they have lines right by my house but they don't do residential so no fiber for me. Business may be where the big money is but residential is where the growth is.

Seems dumb and short sighted to run fiber to neighborhoods, have it literally 50 feet away and not to installs. You should make up the install cost pretty quickly and where the hell are your subs going to go? Short of you fucking them there is no reason to go back to comcast unless you force them to with terrible service.

Its because the profit margins are hilariously large on business DIA and metro circuits. Businesses generally sub for 10x the throughput they actually need, pay DIA pricing for it (think 3x residential per Mbps), and probably dont use anything during streaming prime time 6pm-11pm. Business subs are the best subs.

I just wish I wasn't stuck with Comcast. I like my apartment complex but it's the only fucking option. I have no issues at all with performance or any sort of technical issues, but the 300 GB bandwidth cap is fucking stupid. Even doing minimal downloading every month it's so easy to hit 300 GB with just 2 people thanks to streaming.

You have caps on Comcast? Are you sure? I'm near Portland OR, and when I go to my account, and the section on data caps, it keeps track, but says in big bold letters, "At this time, we are not enforcing data caps" or something like that. I'd double check they are even enforcing it Fadaar.

Oh they are. The usage statistics on their website isn't working right now but I did get an email yesterday:

Edit: I'm in Savannah, GA. One of the areas they have their faggoty data caps.

My options are either Comcast with 50Mb Internet or Uversewith 18Mb for the same speed. Indy has like 6 broadband providers but they are fragmented all over the place and in most places you have the option between 2 or even just one. There really needs to be more competition between providers, that would fix 99% of the problems we have.

I honestly don't care about more speed even at this point, just price. My bill just jumped back up to the normal pricing so now I have to call and bitch, the whole system is so fucking stupid.

Anyone work with Century Link Prism TV? I'm in Portland area now, and have Comcast, but heard Century Link is coming to the Portland area with Prism TV and gigabit internet? No idea how long that will take to start rolling out but they are beating Google Fiber.

Century Link back in Phoenix I always thought was terrible.

I'm at the same point with Cox. My bill was about $165 for the last year and has jumped to $206. I called in today to get them to re-discount and the girl said "Oh, last year we were allowed to stack discounts. You currently have $31 off and I won't be able to come close to that this year." She explained how they know what the competition is like in my area so they don't have to do anything and I told her that the business reality doesn't back up fucking over your paying customers. That is when she said she had an MBA and that she understood. I was floored with the arguments she was pulling out just to try and make me okay that they won't discount my service about 15%. I told her as soon as a viable alternative enters the area that I will be switching.

Meanwhile, if you are a new customer you can sign up for the same internet and a much better tv package for $159 a month guaranteed for 24 months. How does that make any fucking sense?

Anyone know how to get Cox to give you discounts or have a friend that works there that can hook me up?

Call the retention department instead of CS? If they have a late night shift there it's usually pretty easy to get someone cool enough just be like 'I threaten to leave you give me a reasonable price, we dance the dance and I can go about my day and you can add it to your numbers for the month, sound good?'

I tried streaming a movie the other day at 11:30 pm. I started getting 1mbps . Called and they told me they still had load balancing in effect. It lasts up to 3 hours after activated. Love my shitty cable.

How long have you been with them?

I had luck when I called, and said I've been with you guys for 10+ years, and I'm really trying to get my bill down. There isn't anything you can do? They said no at first, then I said, times are very tough, and I love your service, there really isn't anything you can do? This was after talking up this rep and being overly nice the entire time.

I was transferred to their "Loyalty department" , and got a 25% discount on my internet, which is all I get from them, because paying for TV is stupid.

All my Comcast discounts dropped off and my bill is nearly $200. I went into the local office and asked for some new discounts and they wouldn't do a damn thing for me. Nothing. So, it prompted me to do the cut the cord thing with SlingTV and Netflix. My one worry is switching to 20mb DSL from 50mb cable. I hope it doesn't affect HD streaming too much.

Netflix says for HD you should have something like 7mb. Of course if everybody is doing it at home you'll see degradation but for a couple 20m should be fine. I had 18 with shitty U-verse and my husband and I could both neftlix hd just fine.

So Comcast upgraded the Blast! tier speed in my area (indy) from 50 to 75. I recommend if you have blast to restart your modem and run a speed test to see if it upgraded. No idea if it's a widespread upgrade or not.

So I really hope these data caps never happen. I'm sitting at 451 GB right now at the end of my cycle. A 250 GB data cap would be insane on overage charges.

Oh don't worry I've gone over three months in a row thanks to having a temporary roommate. 300 GB for one person might be enough with moderate streaming/downloading. Two or more people? Get the fuck out of here. At least they give you three free months of overages so once I went over this month I just went crazy.

can't think i could ever go back to non-gigabit internet. seriously all non-google fiber USA is living in the fucking stone age. 20mb? Cell phone LTE is faster than that.
