What is more amazing is how the "Free Market" ass holes fight tooth and nail to keep the market as closed as possible. It's amazing what a litte competition will do.
That uplink is abysmal. 300 down, but only 5 up? Yea, congrats on Google soon!$75 a month for 300/5 with Time Warner. Time Warner is still a little bitch with their upload speeds. It's funny what TW has done here in KC
2011 - Google Fiber announces they are coming to KC. TW ups my 25/5 to 50/5 for "free". I'm paying $65 a month for standalone service at this point.
2012 - that "free" price is increased by $10 per month...can't go back down to 25/5 for the same price, that tier doesn't exist anymore, would have to go back down to 15/5 to save money. Fuck that.
2014 - Google Fiber announces signups will be opening for my specific suburb in 2015. TW up my 50/5 to 100/5 for "free"
2015 - Google Fiber signups happen in April, TW ups my 100/5 to 300/5 for "free" in May. I haven't seen my first bill yet since this change, it better be the same
So now I'm just waiting for my email from Google Fiber with an install date for my home/neighborhood. Probably won't happen until late in the year or early 2016 at the slow rate that they move, but I can't wait to be rid of Time Warner.
Funny how Time Warner doesn't do these great "upgrades" until Google Fiber announces something and scares the shit out of TW. They definitely aren't doing them out of the goodness of their hearts. Also fuck TW for having the capability of 300mpbs service 5+ years ago, but not offering a single plan that was over 50mpbs.
Yep, been paying $15 a month for a Seedbox for about 2 years now because of that. Ridiculous upload speed. That uplink is abysmal. 300 down, but only 5 up? Yea, congrats on Google soon!
I really hope they do follow through on this. I also hope they crack down on burst vs sustained speeds. Advertising burst speeds and not giving any information about the window/threshold, or not even stating that they are burst speeds, is nothing but false advertising.Report it to the FCC. They are taking complaints on actual vs advertised speeds. Probably won't have anything come of it, but fuck ISPs
FCC serves notice to Internet service providers on speeds
God damn, that is bad! Just to make you feel worse, I am in the middle east in the land of the sand shitlords and I pay for 100Mb fiber but in reality end up with ~110Mb. (3rd world problems??)Just to make you non-google fiber people feel better, I'll post my stats again.
Currently paying $69.99 for "up to" 10 mbps down and "up to" 1 mbps up. I have a 10 GB/month data allowance with an additional 10 GB that I can use between 2 and 8 AM.
Here's how that "up to 10/1 mbps" is looking this morning.
To be fair, it's not usually this bad but it rarely tests above 5 mbps and I usually can't watch even a 360p youtube video without caching.
