It's very, very loosely based on the movie (basically the concept and the name is it). But it's really its own thing. I'm a sucker for time travel too, which helps.

I really hate these "keep watching to reveal the mysteries we don't explain" shows in general. They don't ever payoff, the mysteries aren't that interesting, and it's a very cheap and lame narrative device to try to keep you interested to figure out what X Y or Z is all about.

I wouldn't mind the mystery box if I didn't feel jerked around this whole season. First episode back, oh man what happened! Nothing much actually. Oh. Episode 3 Mark gets the first reintegration procedure and we follow up on it not at all in episode four. It doesn't seem to do much of anything. Later on we move up to full brain surgery, the episode after is at least connected as it's the flashback/Gemma episode but doesn't play in to anything else. When the audience can't wait to see what happens next "nothing" should not be the answer. Why even have the reintegration subplot at all this season? It does nothing and goes nowhere. We could have spent that time doing anything else.

if you're not going to tell me much could what you do tell me progress from episode to episode? Could we build anticipation and momentum throughout the season?

Dunno, reading the reaction to the finale in this thread, doesn't sound like people are happy.

Well that's really bad then. I thought for sure Reddit and Team Normie would like it.

I really do think this season is going to horrible on a second viewing.

The reintegration plot was equally useless since it should have influenced Mark to not worry about disappearing since he will be part of the main Mark. That was the whole point of it I thought, was to allow the innie to escape Lumon effectively and rejoin his outie. But no he gets Gemma out and then runs back with Helly which makes no fucking sense because Helly will ditch him the moment she gets back to her outie, and he will be alone (and also have abandoned his wife and his outie).

What a dumb fucking plot, honestly.

re-watching s2 kinda, reghabi fucked up reintegration again (1st petey), she said she could create a version of reintegration where inner mark would accept it,

well yea that didn't happen

Finally finished.

Speaking of dumb, where are Mark and Helly running to at the end of the episode? We literally just established that they've decided to stay on the severed floor forever (until they're removed). There's no where to go. May as well have fucked her on the floor right there in front of Gemma. The only purpose of it was for some artsy fartsy cinematography with that song.

The other dumb thing - how do you motivate the innie to work? He gets no pay, no rewards, no off time, just work. And he knows for a fact there is a world outside since they wake up in the elevator each morning already dressed and rested.

It's essentially a completely retarded concept without more explanation which they won't do.

There was definitely something in the scenes, especially their last one when he knows she's going away. I think you're reading too little into their interactions in season 1.

That said I don't think innie mark choosing to stay was a sign he was completely disconnected from Gemma. He first of all knows it's basically suicide for him and he was still starting to push the door but then Helly showed up, which is another strong conflicting emotional pull.

not to mention innie marks choices prove fuck all since they’ve already fucked with his chip AND he’s had tons of conversations with outies.

their death? They already agreed early in the episode they were both fucked and reintegration was his only chance

It's a doomed romance ending. They're running to a future neither of them has but as long as we have one more moment together it's all that matters etc etc etc. All the drive in this season is love triangles. We've got several. Innie Outie Dylan + Wife, Innie Outie Irving Burt Fields (extra layers with this one) and Innie Outie Mark Innie Outie Helly + Gemma (also extra layers). We basically got bait and switched from a story about the indomitable human spirit to a daytime soap opera.

At the start of this year I went and watched 12 Monkeys. An episode or two in, I looked up whether it had a payoff or more LOST bullshit. All the feedback was correct, not only was the ending incredibly satisfying, they did their best to literally tie every fucking mystery up with a pretty bow. It was actually pretty amazing, and became one of my favorite shows.

if you liked 12 monkeys (i loved it) make sure to catch Dark on Netflix, it also ties up everything similar to 12M and is an absolutely mind fuck of a show that ruins mediocre shows after you watch it

sadly its all white people, no muslim immigrants in germany shown so its pretty unrealistic

I've kept up on From but it's bad and I cannot recommend it. It's an order of magnitude more frustrating than this last season of Severance.

Yeah, watched Dark a few years ago based on recommendations from here. My only complaint with that one was the language part since I hate having to read when I'm watching TV. Definitely a top tier one though.

Yeah this is what annoyed me. The only reason you would have such a setup is because you are psychotically paranoid about anyone getting the slightest idea of what you are working on. Yet it doesn't require any Cthulhu technology to work on either. Its just regular office work in a fucked up office.

After, I was reading some interview with the guy who wrote it, and he even mentioned a quote from Lindelof I think who said "people don't want answers, they want to keep getting hooked by the mysteries." His response was that's fucking retarded and people want answers and a payoff. Apparently he went in on one of the last seasons of one of those recent Star Trek abomination shows that was universally panned and turned out an amazing season.
Well that might explain why I have hated the two Lindelof shows I have tried to watch after Lost. I guess I need to give the 12 Monkeys show a try too. I know it's well rated, but I never gave it a chance because I love the movie and figured that would hurt watching the show.

but hasn't that already been done, innie Mark didn't react at all in season 1 over multiple interactions with Ms. Casey
They hadn't tested their connection in any way that would have evoked memories of their real life together.

This is another episode where I'm halfway through and bored, so reading this thread and responding before I'm even done.
As the "kids" say, the finale was very kino. While i appreciate that there was actually some explanations of WTF is going on overall, I still really only appreciate it as a fantastic 70s ass sci-fi dystopian cinematographic wank fest. And i'm all for that. The whole season has been shot exceptionally well.
