The game is definitely bug/glitch ridden and can be unacceptably terrible at actually letting you log in, but when it works, its a lot of fun despite the flaws. I know that's like saying a car is fun to drive when it actually starts, but its the best of the terrible analogies I can think of right now. I was logged on for about 8 hours straight last night on two different servers (EU and NA), so its possible that they are getting better or so many people have actually given up even trying.

Get in irc if you have questions. It's nice to be able to get answers in real time and commiserate with each other too.

Since yesterday afternoon, i have had zero issues logging on...the servers do disconnect intermittently, but they would either reconnect while i was in-game, or just quit out and rejoin. At this point, i think service vehicles/agents need work and the syncing of cities within a region...last night i couldnt get resources or workers to share between cities in my region cluster, but this morning I could. Definitely some bugs/glitches that need tweaking, but overall, i am having fun. I was not able to connect at all from tuesday through yesterday morning.

if i bork a city, can i restart it on the same spot in the same region?
what do you mean by "bork"? do you mean wanting to start over? or the city gets currupted and you can't load it...if its the former, when you abandon it, the next person starts where you left off...i suppose you could start a different city in the region and gift your original city money, then bulldoze the original and rebuild...but you don't just start fresh.

Ya this shit is bugged as hell. Had 2 processor factories cranking a shiton of crates a day, send it to the trade depot and exporting them. I ran out of alloy from the recycling, started importing alloy and lo and behold, my processors stopped selling. They didn't just stop selling, they stopped reaching the trade depot at all, they would just get on the delivery trucks, go from the factory to the trade depot but never make it there, they'd just disappear. Since i was now buying alloy and no processor would sell anymore, i quickly went from having a million + to zero in the span of a few hours. GG.

Great works do not seem to be working either, by the way.

It isn't, and as far as I'm concerned the residential density is fucking borked, thus the underemployment. I think it'll be changed. As it is I do not build industry at all because I can't even fill commerce jobs and industry is gay. Just build your state-owned shit like mines/wells/processing.

Of course there is this:

Take a look at all the data and there is defiantly something going on here...

I have 10,982 workers 5174 shoppers and 3124 in school.

I have 11,000 unfilled jobs and 21,000 unfilled freight orders.

However...

Not a single building has shut down to lack of workers, all my services are running at max capacity, my schools are filling up and commercial businesses are still building.

So even with the lack of workers and massive lack of freight the only thing my city actually needs more of is shoppers.

Commercial is building then closing down to lack of shoppers, not workers or freight.

I have a feeling its a bug...

Another thing i noticed between workers shoppers and school i have ~19000 people. I have 109k residents, so i pull up the population map that shows me how many workers/shoppers/residents/education/etc. and I see that even a rough guess on what the map shows me is... ~5-10k people are 'at home'

so ~19000 people doing things and another 5-10k at home does NOT make 109,000 people.

That being said there are a lot of residents moving from place to place... but i've already counted those as those are workers going to work and are calculated in the 'workers' stat on the jobs break down. Same with shoppers and tourists... leaving 70,000 people missing....

The phantom denizens of your city that exist nowhere but on paper.
Yeah something is fucking things up , I believe its losing connection to their servers that does this , again i started from scratch. Went into sandbox and got all the numbers i needed for employment requirements on each building. One thing that bothers me though , there is no increase in employment for any upgrades you do on services or any building for that matter. So for example a police station requires 10 low and 4 med , but if you add more police cars or jail cells , it still requires 10 and 4. So again , im owning this system have damn near 0 unemployment all fuckers are happy , then I lose connection then i reconnect and then shit starts to fuck up. My businesses are complaining for lack of shoppers , but in the panel it shows i need fucking more commercial. Then all of sudden i need over 1200 low employees and my med wealth jumps to 500 unemployed. But shit was fun as hell till that point , the game is fun no denying that. Also we get a free game....it better not be some old fucking games. Give me a choice from their whole fucking library like AC 3 or DS 3 and ill forgive them =P.

Ran into a random bug and I say random cause it doesn't always happen, couldn't move alloy or plastics from my recycling plant, I blew up the plant, the trade port, and the processor plant like half a dozen times each and they just would not play nice with each other. Worked when I imported the materials, just not when I tried to get it locally. sigh.

The traffic problems just completely destroy any big cities, basically any with concentrated high density zones the traffic will destroy you. If you spread everything out and stick to medium density or only allow a few high density zones (or do a one road city to avoid any intersections) then it can work.

How can you play SimCity when the traffic pathing is completely fucked?

Well ,

Update: 03/09/2013 - This update to SimCity contains the following updates and fixes:

General
Fix for a crash related to the highway interchanges and vehicles.
Traffic was optimized for complex road sections.
Fix for a specific case of city processing that forced players to rollback their cities to a previous state.
Fix for a crash some players saw when exiting their city.
Rapidly clicking or accidently double clicking the Claim city button will no longer create multiple regions.
We temporarily removed filtering by friends and maps on the Join Game screen to better support database performance. Players can still find friends' regions by going to their friends' profile pages.

Servers
Various database optimization to address issues with connecting to our servers
We added 8 additional servers!

Grr still no cheetah , sigh.

man it seems like so much is based on the server playing nice. I had a city start to deathspiral out of control. i bulldozed some. got it managable, but the interstate running through my city...it backed up. 3 lanes wide. across the WHOLE region. Just stopped in the road. as far as i could see, there was a line of three cars trying to leave my city like a disaster movie. I was expecting to see the walking dead guy galloping into town to look for his ignorant wife.

anyway it made my city literally unplayable because the mega clog prevented my ore shipments from leaving and my fire trucks from saving the day.

Is it almost in a playable state now? Or is there still a good chance that your city/region will just get fucked?

If you were ever able to get in I'm not sure there was ever really a 'good chance' of that happening outside of some of the wilder headlines.

Here's a quick update on the problems we were experiencing with SimCity - and a little something extra for people who bought the game.

The server issues which began at launch have improved significantly as we added more capacity. But some people are still experiencing response and stability problems that we're working fast to address.

So what went wrong? The short answer is: a lot more people logged on than we expected. More people played and played in ways we never saw in the beta.

OK, we agree, that was dumb, but we are committed to fixing it. In the last 48 hours we increased server capacity by 120 percent. It's working - the number of people who have gotten in and built cities has improved dramatically. The number of disrupted experiences has dropped by roughly 80 percent.

So we're close to fixed, but not quite there. I'm hoping to post another update this weekend to let everyone know that the launch issues are behind us.

Something Special for Your Trouble

The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can't get a stable connection, you're NOT having a good experience. So we're not going to rest until we've fixed the remaining server issues.

And to get us back in your good graces, we're going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

I know that's a little contrived - kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We're hoping you won't stay mad and that we'll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.

SimCity is a GREAT game and the people who made it are incredibly proud. Hang in there - we'll be providing more updates throughout the weekend.
Free game eh? So how is Assassin's Creed 3? Dead Space 3? Battlefield 3? I have only ever played a Battlefield predecessor. More then likely the "free" game will be something I wouldn't download even if it had always been free.

I've been playing a good bit today with the server dropping connection and picking back up. At the same time, it takes awhile to get in.

Is it possible to get in and play now?
I've played almost 20 hours the first 3 days, some people in this thread probably far exceed that. Contrary to the headlines, not being able to connect/play has been the exception not the rule. Places like Kotaku were posting 'SimCity down again' when they were bringing it down (for all of 10 minutes) to patch.

Just to test, I just fired it up, patched, loaded into the last city I was working on within the span of a minute or two.

Anyone have any hard numbers on how many years it takes for radiation to go away after a meltdown? I've been on a knife's edge trying to keep my city afloat for about two years after it happened and its only gotten worse.
