Do you ask for refunds when you don't like a movie or CD you didn't like, too? Look, maybe your mom was the type that would buy a dress, hide the tag as she wore it out, and then return it the next day...but I was raised better than that. I'm not saying you're a bad person, just reprensible.
haha straight to your momma jokes.

I don't hold it against people for returning simcity as long as they didn't play it that long. It's one thing to buy it, make a city, realize some of the surprising flaws then read this thread expressing how fundamental those flaws are and decide the game is for you. It's another thing to do what I did where I buy it, make 15 cities, realize all the flaws, continue on and eventually get fed up with the game after 60 hours of playtime. In my case I wouldn't feel comfortable returning it.

edit - I think the movie analogy is a good one. I don't know anyone that has ever seen a movie in a theater and asked for a refund because they felt that it sucked. If there are theaters out there that offer this service, then great. it definitely isn't the norm(just like returning opened software)
This isn't a matter of opinion on something sucking though. The game doesn't fucking work. It's not like "I didn't like this"...it's "X/Y feature does not work". Can't you see the difference there? Large portions of the simulation do not work--mechanics that wereadvertised(This is important, because certain things were promised to work certain ways.) as a draw to the game. But lets give a better correlation.

If I buy a car and the guy tells me it has a corvette engine with say, 300 horsepower (Number doesn't matter)--then I bring it home and after driving it around, I find it doesn't have much pep, so I bring it to a mechanic and it turns out to be a Hyundai engine with 175 horsepower. Guess what that is? That's fucking fraud, dude. You can be sued for that. (If the seller is supposed to have expertise in his field). This game advertised certain systems working X way, and those systems are not there--what is the difference between that and the car?

Here, I'll tell you...Games are new technology that old judges don't care about, cars aren't. That's the only reason why this type of shit is tolerated.

I really wanted Simcity to be a good game. It was the first pc game that I ever bought. I was leery of the online aspect but the concept seemed really cool. If nothing else, it made me pull out my simcity 4 cd, install it and mod it to hell to have a little fun

I'm fine with the purchase of this product. I don't have time to sit and stare at a city for 12 hours at a time, nor do I care to run it while AFK.

I get on, fuck around, and go do other shit. Play for fun, not to min/max. Bugs are bugs and will be fixed, cut down your SimC time and rotate in other games while this one gets updated.

I was always a big "fill up the map as fast as possible" simcity 2000 player, and I absolutely can't do that in this game. Which is good, because in SC2k I would bust out a city on cheetah and it would fill up in 20 minutes and that would be that. I never played SC4, but I would imagine I wouldn't be happy until I had filled the entire playable area with some sort of building.

Also it gives my fiance something to do while I play other games so she doesn't complain about me not spending time with her in the living room, and it's not The Sims, so I don't feel like a fag playing it.

Some slides on glass box.
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...Y5ZTMwNzYzOTNk

I haven't read it to make a determination on how much of this was left out / buggy but I do know that slide 49 shows that the sims should route correctly to two objectives. The slide describes ten sims going to two 5 person houses. In the slide 5 go to one house 5 go to another. Currently 10 sims go to one house and half fail and go to the next house.

There's also a slide that describes:
Distance modi?ed by
. Sink strength: advertises a capacity
. Modi?ers such as congestion and speed limit

Which obviously isn't true for both bullet points.

Just fixing both of those differences would make a tremendous difference in the traffic levels even if it doesn't fundamentally improve the system.

Page 4: "Deploy same gameplay across multiple devices" - I wonder if, given the light CPU load, the engine is meant to be targeted at mobile devices as well, maybe that explains the low fidelity of the simulation.

You're grasping for straws to justify being a bad person. It's cool...that's what bad people do.

What's funny is that I'm fairly certain (could be wrong of course) that Drinsic never even bought the game, so he obviously wouldn't have had to return it. He's just defending the people like me that did. I honestly don't care what someone thinks of me for returning it. I haven't returned a game since the old days of Electronics Boutique when we did it just because we could. Initially I even said I was going to count this one as a lesson learned and not ask for a refund. But I changed my mind, because I really want to "vote with my dollar" and essentially tell EA that their game sucks. Putting a crappy review on various sites isn't going to get that point across quite the same way as Amazon telling them that yet another copy of their shitty game got returned. It was the only avenue I had. The $45 isn't as important to me as them maybe, just maybe, realizing they can't keep fucking the customer over. A pipe dream perhaps, but how else can I get that point across?

And just in case you missed Drinsic's point, we all know what reprehensible means. You didn't type that the first time though.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with returning a game.

Just don't think for a second that your 60 bucks mean a god damn thing to a company like EA.

For every 10,000 people that get pissed and return their game or don't even buy it, there's 50,000 other people who either don't give a shit and like the game for what it is, or they're fanbois and also don't care to throw their money at EA.

It takes a HUGE amount of public pressure to get a company to change a policy. Remember when Blizzard thought it would be a genius idea to put peoples real names on their forums? Yea, after tens if not hundreds of thousands of people canceled or said they were going to cancel did they do an about face on that shit.

Ah, no. Even after you pointed it out, I had to re-read it to see what I wrote. Ok, he's not as bad of a person as I thought.
I'm not going to change anyone's mind about the subject in this thread and I know that. I made it because I was agreeing about amazon's amazing customer service. But Tuco basically made my point when he said once you put in a certain amount of time, it's pretty shitty to ask for a refund.
Sorry for the derail.
(Drinsic, I thought my post was over-the-top enough to not be taken seriously, but if you took the personal attacks to heart...not that you care what someone on the internet thinks, I apologize.)

I played 40 hours. Most of my play time was trying to figure out how to design a good city, with a balanced economy, good road design, etc. As most people, the fun was in the challenge. When I discovered it was all bullshit, because the optimal road design is a single curvy road, RCI demand is irrelevant, and the AI is beyond dumb, I felt defrauded. It's like starting to play chess and spending all this time trying to learn the optimal play, then find out 40 hours later somehow that 4 move checkmate is ideal. It may not quite reach the legal definition, but it's fraud. I've never returned a game I don't like. This is different. The game is a piece of shit at its core. And if I can give a $45 middle finger to EA, that's a bonus.

I never bought it either, and my Jimmies are mad rustled at this debacle. There is a difference between not delivering and conspiring to produce fraudulent behavior. The single hour beta's, intentional population covers and other factors point toward the latter. EA is already a shitty company for raping hundreds of years of property rights with their bullshit DRM crusade, they could at least deliver on the lube (IE fulfilling promises on how a game works.)

I don't give a shit about the vidya game return moral crusade conversation, but this is a great metaphor for this game.

Anyone else getting kind of bored with the game already? :\

I really think it's the city size that's turning me off. Too damn small! I also don't care that there are other cities to grow in the region. I'm playing SimCity for God's sake, not SimRegion!

Edit: I should've read the last few pages before posting.

I haven't played for days , my reason being the region trade and sharing doesnt like to work sometimes. Also the broken ass traffic system and the other problems that plague the game , once those are addressed and of course if they can even be fixed. I will return to playing it , i like the game and want it to get better. Just hope that it does , but if the past few days are any indication i dont think its gonna be fixed any time soon. They dont even update the known issues thread with anything besides the server problems , ignoring the other aspects of the game that are fucked. Nor is there any communication on what the fuck they are working on to get fixed asap.Nothing , they have went fucking silent and are just waiting for the people that dont take shit to leave and then they will deal with the people that like to eat shit and continue to shove it slowly down our throats and laugh while we like it.

I wouldn't be surprised if now that the game is playable a lot of the devs took their post-release vacation and began handing off the game to the B team.

I'm usually against open box game refunds too since the retailer has no gauge on how much that product was 'consumed' before they took it back. For example, if you went to the restaurant and wanted a refund for shitty food, would the restaurant still give you a refund even though you ate most of it already? That's easy to measure, something like a game is not.

That being said, in this case the game is fundamentally broken. The various videos and threads all over the internet highlight this in glaring detail. It's not a case not liking a feature or wanting a feature to be different. It's about features that don't work whether you like them or not. Folks should have every right to ask for a refund, the product is defective.
