It's not part of any vision. It's just them trying to explain why the game is always-online. I don't know if there is any real new argument in that whole page but there is no argument, at all, to explain why there is not an offline mode. She just explains one more time some of the perks of playing online which is not the same as explaining why there is not another game mode. And the reason the question was raised was that someone showed that it could be done without too much trouble.

So, could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes. But we rejected that idea because it didn't fit with our vision. We did not focus on the "single city in isolation" that we have delivered in past SimCities. We recognize that there are fans - people who love the original SimCity - who want that. But we're also hearing from thousands of people who are playing across regions, trading, communicating and loving the Always-Connected functionality. The SimCity we delivered captures the magic of its heritage but catches up with ever-improving technology.

She talks about the online features as if they were revolutionary, and that we should be blown away for having them. At the same time, she comes off as belittling us for not recognizing that fact, nor seeing just how difficult it all is.

"Without the servers you couldn't send gifts! Do you understand that??"
"We track achievements. ACHIEVEMENTS! Isn't that important to you mouth-breathers??"

The more "complex" features are all just smoke and fucking mirrors. They aren't complex to the point that a modern pc can't handle them. What are my other cores doing atm? Just about jack shit because of stupid design decisions. And at the end of the day, that is the problem. I could live with always-online if they didn't insult my intelligence as to why it has to be that way. I can't live with broken game mechanics and shitty design decisions that detract from the fun of the game.

Uh, that post was all bullshit. Online only is absolutely nothing more than an anti-piracy measure. Maybe it even came from Maxis, who cares, but to think it's anything other than an attempt to stop piracy is silly
