There is no reason to ever not buy something from amazon unless (1)it's not available at Amazon or (2)at least 20% cheaper elsewhere.

After reading Bradshaw's latest pile of shit if I bought it from Origin and could easily get a refund I would. Not going to stick it to Amazon though.

Anytime anyone in the games industry says the word "vision" in that context my eyes just completely fucking glaze over and I find it immediately impossible to take them seriously. Thanks Brad!
Yeah, I think use of the term "vision" should immediately alert the wary gamer. It is basically the exec letting consumers know that they will absolutely not, under any circumstances, be listened to by the company. The company will continue doing what they are doing because they are more loyal to some ephemeral conceptualization than to the actual gaming experience of the consumer.

Perhaps there really is a vision, or if you are a structuralist you'd argue that the vision is just a mask that covers the real thing-- which is the company using the concept of an "artistic vision" to mask the real goal of screwing the consumer in favor of DRM, real money auction, or some other gash grab gimmick. Or, for Brad, the "vision" was his excuse for general incompetence.

Legitimate artists have "visions" which should not be compromised by institutions of power (the Church, totalitarian governments, etc), and I do not like how gaming execs are piggy backing that concept to excuse or conceal their contempt (or rather complete indifference) towards the player base.

So what's the "exploit" for the alloy/tv/plastic/infinite money shit?

I think my sims are too stupid to use this recycling center

SimCity Hack Lets Users Destroy Anyone's Online City Thanks To Always-On DRM

Basically, as the video shows below, you can enter into another person's online town and wreck havoc. It's awesome because this hack is only as destructive as it is because of EA's decision to make the game always-on. If the game hadn't had always-on DRM then this hack wouldn't be half as devastating as it is. Having EA delete these kind of topics from their forums is great damage control but don't be surprised if there's another furor when people start raging on the forums when some hacker decides to go through and Godzilla everyone's town. Enjoy.

Is that any different from being able to visit cities and destroy everything? Or does it just give you more options to fake-destroy things?

The exploit is to buy a smelter and import coal/ore and smelt it into alloy. Right now the profit margin for it is massive. Once you get a ton of money from that you can get processor plants from that alloy + imported plastic. And from there make tvs from the processors + alloy + imported plastic.

That article is full of Kotaku-level writing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a link bait, since there's nothing on reddit

Hopefully this stops people from unjustly blaming EA for this shitshow. This is all on Maxis' shoulders.
I don't know why anyone would make the distinction in the first place. Maxis is wholly owned by EA, are they not?

I wouldn't consider returning the game "sticking it" to Amazon. If anything it hurts EA more since Amazon is a massive company and could care less about a bunch of returns compared to keeping their customers happy at the expense of Steam and Origin.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Tuco again.

I'm no EA apologist but there is a distinction. Basically EA owns a huge number of game developing outfits like Maxis, many of whom have a sizable fanbase. And there is a perception among gamers that EA suits are forcing these good-natured development groups to sacrifice good games for short term profit. Instead I think the truth is more shifted toward the heads of these development groups making dumb or greedy decisions themselves rather than being forced by EA.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the suits at EA just say things like: Put some microtransaction shit in your game and put out at least one paid DLC per quarter. And then the individual studios have lots of leeway to hang themselves with that.

You can't blame EA for everything. I'm sure no one at the head office told Bioware "hey, why don't you give our flagship RPG franchises a pair of shitty endings."

PS: Seriously, someone hook me up with a SimCity 4 CDKey. I lost mine. :/

I like where they deleted a thread with the word Mods in the title without even knowing the content of the thread.

Even with my basic knowledge of coding, I suspected a lot of the stuff that the modder says in that article. All of the information that needs to be shared between cities in a region are just values of resources. How much x y z of A B C are available. The only complexity that I could think of would be when multiple people are playing all at the same time. Even then that would just require updates every 5-10 minutes about the values. It wouldn't need to be done dynamically.

Regardless, too many people are raging about the always-online and the bullshit associated with it coming from Maxis, while ignoring the many other aspects of the game that are glaringly broken. Yeah, offline play would be nice, but all the issues related to agents, RCI demand/balance, and other balance issues are what make the game not fun. If those were working, I would play online and not be too upset about it. Deep down, at a moral level, I'd be upset, but if it was still a deep, well-polished game I wouldn't have returned it.

I hate shipping shit back to people...as much as I hate not dealing with someone in person regarding my product...so I buy stuff so I can go down the street and have stuff resolved immediately, but like I also said previously, I don't like Amazon...too many shitty kindles.

I am really hoping a small few tweaks like the traffic one will make this game pretty good in 1 month or so. Hopefully.....

What will really be interesting is if the game is open enough to modding to alleviate some of the serious issues with it via modding. All of a sudden you're looking at a game that is significantly better offline than online.
EA are calling mods they don't like 'hacks' and are banning people who use them. So yeah, don't expect any real modding scene here.

I like where they deleted a thread with the word Mods in the title without even knowing the content of the thread.
They're deleting any thread with the word 'mod' in it and also auto-censoring the EA Customer Service hotline number.
