The T-mobile offer to buy out contracts and phones to get people to switch worked on my brother in law and family. Only 2 smartphones, but made the switch. Here in Phoenix, and their location, they say the speeds seem faster to them, but considering they both had 2 year old smart phones, and upgraded to the new Nexus, I'm pretty sure it's just an all around faster experience, rather than actually faster internet speeds.

But it did get me thinking. I used to have T-mobile, and was loyal to them for 6-7 years before switching to my current carrier Verizon. I switched because a while back, it was worth it to be on the same network as your group you speak too due to free "in-network" texting and calling. Now, it's all unlimited either way, considering I hardly use any voice minutes.

Might be worth taking a look at least and to see if I can't get the bill cheaper.

So I switched over to windows phone and bought the Icon. I just wanted to try it out since I've already tried android and IPhone. I have to say this is the best smartphone I have owned so far except for the damn apps. Microsoft needs to do something to get people to create apps for WP. If they can get their shit together in the next year they could actually do some damage to the standard two.

That's my exact feeling with my Lumia 920. Greatest hardware I've ever owned in a cell phone. The OS is pretty solid and I've never had a better texting experience. Unfortunately, the app support is downright awful.

Well Nokia / Microsoft is already launching phones in other countries based off the Lumia hardware with Android installed, aren't they? Thought I remembered hearing that on TWiT a few weeks back. They have such an investment in Windows Phone 8 it'd be hard to believe they make a wholesale switch here stateside, but offering one Android option may not be outside the realm of possibility. Since I don't really app on my phones anyways maybe I'll look in to a 920. Just found out yesterday my contract is upgrade eligible on the 23rd, so will give it a couple of months past then maybe May / June and see what is out.

I posted the exact thing in this thread last year. Wife and I decided to fst windows phones... she had an iPhone before and me an android... we both agreed the windows phone offered the beat experience except for the app support being awful... we ended up returning the phones and getting androids.

I find it interesting that Microsoft is in the same spot with their cell phone ecosystem that Apple was with their personal computer ecosystem for the vast majority of the past 30 years. Great hardware, very little software support. Except instead of being behind 1 dominant platform, they're behind 2. I don't think they'll ever pull themselves out of the hole they are already in, I really can't imagine anything short of just giving their phones away for free. Not free on contract, but totally free. That still might not do it.

This has been the story with Windows Phone since day one. Everybody thinks it's a nice OS, but nobody uses it and thus no one makes apps for it.

I try to tell people all the time that windows mobile OS is awesome and everyone still think's it's 4 years ago and just laughs at me.

Back in the day I loved Blackberry and thought I was fine without a robust app ecosystem. Then I saw what my friends with iPhones and the first Android devices were capable of and I ditched BB right away.

Blackberry actually sucks though. That's not the case with Windows Phone really. Even people who know what they're talking about on The Verge or Twit or Engadget generally agree that it's very nice, but nobody really uses it.

Anyone know of an app that will do a certain task based on cell radio and/or wifi hotspot connectivity?

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, lower level of my house gets no reception(have tried ATT and VZW), which is where we sleep. What I'd like to do is have an app, upon seeing that it's connected to my home hotspot AND the cell radio is disconnected(manually by us), it will change the forwarding on my google voice number from the cell radio's number to the SIP number. Then, once the cell radio is connected again, regardless of the hotspot connectivity, will switch the gvoice forwarding back. I know it possible to do this in app form, I think GrooveIP had a version of this. That lacking, I'd be willing to code this up myself, just no idea how to program apps for Android.

Much appreciated, Bullock.. So far, I have a very hackish "solution". I set gvoice to forward to my cell number and my sip number at the same time. Then I created triggers in the Llama program. When I arrive home and it connects to my wifi and airplane mode is disabled(wish there was a mode JUST for the cell radio), it will enable it. Second part trigger will re-enable wifi if airplane mode is enabled. This might be a problem on planes? IDK, couldn't think of another place where I NEED to have all my radios off. Then, when I disconnect from my wifi and airplane mode is enabled, disable it. In my SIP program, I will tell it to connect only on my wifi.

This combination should ensure that even though gvoice is forwarding to two numbers at once, only one will be listening at any given time on my end. Only reason I don't like this is I feel I'll get a whole ton of missed calls from the line that isn't listening even though I picked up and talked to that person on the other number.

Looks like I might have to program my own app to change gvoice forwarding. Anyone have some good tutorials for Android programming?

1 year old son threw the wife's iPhone 5s into the toilet. Pulled it out immediately, and had to turn it off, so that's a good sign.

Currently in a zip-lok bag full of rice. Top is open, with a lamp close to it for little heat.

And we never got around to getting the Apple Care warranty on it either. Suck.

That sucks. How long are you going to let it sit for before trying to fire it up?
I've read online anywhere from 24-48 hours in the bag to make sure it was completely dried out. Will just have to be patient.

I did learn that Apple has out of warranty replacement phones for pretty cheap. Well, cheaper than $700 for a new one. They are like $250 or something.

A co-worker dropped her HTC One in the toilet. She brought it to me as I take care of all the phones at our company. I gave her a new one, but I kept the old one turned off for a couple days. It turned on after that but the screen flickered a bit. A couple days later and everything seems fine.

BB10 is not bad, but I have not used Windows Phone, nor a new new Android- the BB10 virtual keyboard is nice, and the company has settled into its groove focusing just on enterprise really with just consumer availability- and that is how it was before their boom, and that was only because it became the cool thing.

I was on WebOS and BB10, really not having tons and tons of apps never really bothered me much, only like netflix... BB10 can run android apps and i just donloaded amazon app store and installed a bunch of ish from there- done.

Holy shit I want! A smart watch worth wearing that doesn't look like a late 80s or 90s calculator watch.
