What is the best MVNO for Verizon's networks? I need 4G and their converage... without their faggotry.
As best as I can tell, Verizon doesn't allow any mvno to use their LTE network. As a matter of fact, you can't even use a VZW 4G phone on an mvno unless you flash it for 3G only. That is what some quick Googling tells me anyways.

Depending on the specs of the Note 4, I will probably jump ship to a OnePlus (if available on Sprint...which I don't think it will be) or the LG G3. LG's G2 was a damn good phone and the G3 is shaping up to be even better.
The G3 looks like the best android phone coming out. Specs are beefy. I'm just not sold on LGs support for their phones. How easy are they to root? Do they release source codes for their phones? In the past they've been very poor.

Samsung has fallen in to the same trap Motorola was in back in the early 00s with the original RAZR. Find something that works and just sell it to death. They've basically been making the same phone for 5 years, just upgrading some specs and refreshing it. This market is much more vain and status focused, unless you are Apple. The market share shifts and you almost have to completely reinvent yourself every 4 years or someone else will do it for you.

tl;dr old monolithic companies still don't know how to adapt to fast changing adhd culture

I can't speak for how easy the G3 will be, but the G2 is pretty easy to root. The Flex is as well.

Android fans have slammed the iPhone for years for this. How does it feel now, huh? HOW DOES IT FEEEEEEL?

As of right now, at this point in time, no phone maker has drastically surpassed Samsung to the point that their phones look old and dated. Apple let that happen years ago with their tiny little phones. Samsung could easily fall into the same trap that Apple did if they basically change nothing in the next couple years, but as of right now they haven't been drastically surpassed(yet). It'll be interesting to see what the next couple of years bring. Samsung is at the point now that Apple was at probably around the iPhone 2 or 3. King of the world, but it could slip away quick over the next few generations.

I'm leaning towards the S5 now after reading some more. What does the M8 have on it? The screens are similar but due to the software keys on the M8 you're likely to get much more actual screen room in real world settings. The S5 seems to have a slightly better battery. The S5 unquestionably has a better rear camera which I use 99% of the time and rarely ever use my front camera. The Sense vs. TouchWiz argument is a moot point for me since I'll be rooting/romming either of them anyways, and I am willing to bet the S5 is going to have better support in the front. The S5 is water resistant which is sort of a plus for me (out on jobsites fairly often). I don't really understand the whole "well the S5 is plastic!" argument. How many of you don't use a phone case? The "elegant" look of the M8 is going to be covered up for me, at least. So again, another moot point. I rarely use the speakers on my phone so whoopeedo on that front.

Am I missing something? I don't get why the hate on the S5 and the love for the M8. For the average user I could see it probably being the better phone but for tech savvy people it seems like the S5 is a no brainer?

Either way I'm walking down to the Verizon store just down the road from me to see both of them in a bit first hand. Hopefully seeing both up close can help make my decision since I'm still on the fence. I wish the Note 4 was close, I'd buy that thing so fast.

Thats pretty much exactly why I chose the S4 over the original HTC one last year. Samsung had the better camera, bigger screen, I felt better quality screen, and I don't give a rats ass about plastic vs metal casing. And now with the water proofing of the S5, thats even another bonus.

The HTCs have better speakers, but thats also a non-factor to me as I only listen to music via headphones or streamed over bluetooth, I never listen to my phone out loud on its own speakers.

I really had no qualms with my S3 until very very recently. I just saw both phones and to me the S5 is the clear winner for someone like me. I'll be getting the developer edition of the S5 so I don't have to fiddlefuck around with one extra thing while I'm finding the rom that I like best.

Edit: Never mind. No root method yet. Looks like I'm going something else... fuck.

Technically S5's camera is better in NORMAL lighting conditions - if you're in any case where you're using lowlight or flash, M8 destroys the S5 - so it depends on the environments/times you plan to use the camera in.

Screen real estate for both is pretty much identical - 0.1 inch difference, but yes S5 is technically larger - colors are going to be a matter of taste between the two screens, S5 is more "vibrant" but to the point of being unnatural to some opinions.

And there's nothing "tech saavy" minded about the S5, frankly - every "tech" feature is either mirrored between the two or weaker on the S5 front. (i.e. their anti-root stance, whereas HTC actually gives you instructions on how to get halfway there and is open to the idea of rooting the phone) [There were dozens of root/rom tutorials on the M8 before it even launched on Sprint when I got mine - likely even more now]

Additionally, it's easy to downplay the value of speakers until you actually have them available - being able to clearly hear the GPS without having to bother with my bluetooth receiver (which it's actually CLEARER than) has been a godsend for example - used to be a running joke between the wife and I that she'd always have to be a repeater for the GPS half the time (100% of the time on my GNexus before I got the BT receiver). Honestly, they're so amazingly convenient to have for so many functions, I can't imagine going without in the future now.

Finally, the "Water Resistance" exists for both phones - M8 just isn't certified, there's even been a 2+ hr dunk test and the M8 came out working fine. The only test out of many I've seen on the M8 and water was one dunk test did "fry the speakers", until it dried out - then they went back to operating normally.

Thanks for the input Vac. Since Verizon + Samsung = Naziville, I'm probably going to end up with the M8. Or I'll just pull a John Kerry/Brett Favre and flip flop for the next few days. But to answer the point above, it was more about the fact that the buttons on the S5 are below the screen and it is 0.1 inches bigger giving it that much more room where as the M8's buttons are on the screen itself.

Probably loses about 0.2 inches while the keys are displayed without transparent overlay, many apps do allow the keys to be a transparent overlay rather than truly taking up real estate though. (Compared it on vs. my old GNexus with keys displayed the screen definitely has more real estate than the GNex with 4.65" - I'd guess 4.8-4.85" range without measuring it, noticeably larger than 4.65" while the keys are up and not transparent)

I've never had an issue hearing ANY Samsung speakers when using the GPS, it seems a silly argument. I only have 45% hearing in one of my hears and I still don't need it on max volume.

That's literally the only time I can think of that I'd ever use the speaker on my phone...and even half the time I never remember to turn my blue tooth off anyways.

I've seen such a huge influx of M8's over the past few weeks for repair that if I were in the market for a phone right now and was determined to not go Samsung, I'd simply wait for the G3. In a year, the only G2 issues I can think of off the top of my head that have come in for service and repair have been screen breaks from people who don't have cases on their phone.

Heh, my car does tend to be a bit on the noisy side these days - there's a reason I've been shopping around for some car advice elsewhere here. If my car was some sort of silent/near silent type might be a different story. Especially the damn AC in my car, horrendously noisy. (Great AC though - just noisy)

And of course a constant wife in the passenger side talking to me that I've got to try to understand the GPS over as well. (Due to my seizures not supposed to drive without her with me under doc's orders - so literally might have 15 min of driving a month without her)

Protip: put your phone down in your cars cup holder while using GPS, the plastic cylinder of the cup holder amplifies the sound. I swear to god my phone seems about 50% louder when its down in my cup holder as opposed to sitting on my console or in the passenger seat or something.

Basically the same idea as this:

I used to do that before the BT receiver, didn't work in my car - it's got weird cup holders though with gaps on almost all the sides though with a little "handle" thing to convert it into just a change dish type thing.

Also Tarrant - how many of the M8 problems you've seen were antennae related though? I know my first M8 did, but I'm leery to blame that on the M8 in general since Sprint has an odd antennae configuration compared to every other carrier. (Which is badass now that it's working full time - although a tad disappointing how much of my life is right on the edge of Spark territory - half my doctors [we see tons of doctors - absolutely my most common time to play with the phone] are a crap shoot on if I'll get Spark signal on a given day, even if I've gotten at that office before)

Honestly, when it comes to talking on tons of M8 discussions and such, I've only seen other Sprint users having problems - and ONLY antennae issues. (Although some of them have been repeat offenders - someone said they were on their 4th on the Sprint support forum when I was navigating my own issue)

Also, Windows mobile OS is fucking awesome.
I really like the Nokia Lumia 1520, such an awesome phone. I just hate how horseshit the app availability is on Windows OS.

Anyone in Minnesota here (I know Tarrant is MN) have AT&T? It really is the only carrier I'd consider switching to over Verizon. How's their service out in the boonies? I spend a majority of my time in the metro but I'm out of the area a lot as well.

AT&T's coverage here is good, almost as good as Verizons, you won't get the crazy data speeds you can get with Verizon though.

The issue with AT&T....the network work that Sprint is just now finishing up here....Verizon has the same thing scheduled in another 9 months or so, AT&T said they would do it in about a year or so but are now back pedaling on that...so it's hard to tell but I think they are going to keep their network as is for the foreseeable future. Which kinda stinks.
