Its just a worthless feature that would be thrown in for purely marketing reasons.
Well be prepared for "worthless" features then. It won't be true 4K but nearly every site is saying it'll be "2K"/QHD like the LG3. Also some leaked images came out yesterday and it looks like it'll have metal edges and the faux-leather plastic is gone. Seems like it'll be weather/water proof similar to the S5 as well.

Yeah I don't mind the look of it at all. Almost all screen on the front and the back looks pretty classy.

And as has been said in this thread, how many people DON'T put cases on their phones? Almost no one. I don't get the "OMFG IT LOOKS SO UGLY" or "OMFG THAT IS SUCH A GREAT LOOKING PHONE" thing. You put a case on it anyways. Who the hell cares?

Can't stand the fake backs on the Galaxy phones but the fact that they still have buttons on the front is the most annoying to me.

I currently have the M8. Would you rather have a hard button and 5.7" of screen or 5.7" of screen with half an inch taken up by software buttons?

I don't even see how that is a question.

I don't. On my third smartphone, haven't needed one so far. I'll live with dings and minor scratches over turning my phone ugly and/or bulky.

Well not everyone likes their electronics to get beat up and I don't know what cases you use but my commuter otter case adds almost no bulk to my phone and doesn't look ugly at all.

That said, Note 4 looks pretty nice to me. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want a physical button. I've worked phone repair long enough to know that when your touch sensor goes out in that zone of your phone where there is a touch button, then you're fucked.

Not to mention that it is easier to sell a flawless phone vs. a phone that has a bunch of dings/dents on it. I had a case for my S3 from the second I bought it. I should have done the same for my OMFG IT LOOKS SO NICE AND BEAUTIFUL! M8

Can't software buttons be hidden when not in use or needed? Either way, software buttons being able to adapt to whatever you're doing seem far preferable to a hardware button that can't change what it does based on context.

I think it depends on your lifestyle some too. I use my case on and off depending on the plans for the day.

WTF is your definition of "bulky"? Otterbox is one of the bulkiest cases on the market. Ruins whatever aesthetics your phone had too.

I'll take a few dings and scratches over that. I didn't say beat up. I still have my gnex, shall I take a couple picture for you?

As for resale value, that's your decision. I'm not on a subsidized plan anymore, so I plan to use my Nexus 5 as long as possible.

I never put a case on my phone.
*highfive*

The only people that should need cases for phones are children. How hard is it to not constantly drop something? How often do you drop a drink glass and break it? And thats even often wet and slippery. I don't understand people that constantly break phones on a regular basis, how clumsy can you be? My phone is always either A)in my pocket, B) in my hand, or C)sitting flat on a desk/table. I'm not sure where the dropping and breaking comes into play.

I've owned a Blackberry Curve, HTC Evo, Samsung S2, S4, & Note3 over the previous 7-8 years of smartphone use, and have never once dropped my phone on the floor/ground, nor broken one in any other manner. Sure they have a few scuffs here and there on the back or the corners, but that's about it from normal use.
