Ok I decided to go with of all things Walmarts Family Mobile. $40 a month unlimited talk/text with 2.5 gbs data a month that uses Tmobiles service. Speed is capped at 3g or 1mbs which is fine since all I would ever do on it is look up shit at home depot/lowes while on the job.
Now I need to just buy a actual phone. Is it worth risking buying one used from someone or should I just dish out $100 for Samsung Galaxy Exhibit that I can pick up in store now, or should I hunt down something different?
Keep in mind I am not watching porn in HD all day nor using 5000 apps. I just needed something to keep me from running to stores/home to look up materials on the job.

Moto G probably is the best option for you I'd imagine. Assuming it's T-Mobile friendly.

Edit: it is for the right models.

Damn that looks pretty nice. $179 for 8gb 199 for 16 if I was to get it with 4glte would be more but since WFM is only 3g don't see the need to spend $40 more for it. Since no contracts chances are I'll replace it in a year or so anyways.

Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599 vs Motorola Moto G XT1033 Dual 16GB - Compare Phones - Phone More

Blows away the samsung I listed in comparison overall.
It's really hard to beat the Moto G for lower end phones. I would suggest getting the 16GB model as 8GB one will probably have only 5-6GB usable and that can run out pretty fast.

While the Moto line was a great suggestion and reviews claim they are AWESOME phones , I opted to go withNeo 4.5for my first smartphone venture, mostly because my ATT runs out next Wed and I want to transfer my number while it is active. I got the Blu Neo 4.5 shipped overnight for saturday delivery for $76 after my Amazon gift cards I had accumulated from doing surveys last week.
In my line of work I'm sure it will only last 6-12 months before I break it but being on a no contract plan I'll just buy another one when it happens depending on what is new.

My parents both bought Blu Life Ones when they ditched Sprint and went with postpaid, because the Nexus 4 had just sold out when they finally made up their mind. It's a solid phone and I have to give credit to Blu for not screwing around with android much, keeping the software nearly AOSP. For $76 that looks like a good phone. What version of android is it running?

480x854 for resolution though.....

Appears to be jelly 4.2.

Still conflicted on waiting a couple months with my near non working phone for note 4 possibly w/ I dont know who, or trying to go cheap as possible w/ email/text/call net10 or something . Eitherway with my limited usage I need to ditch this $80/month unlimited sprint bill.

Andriod 4.2.2
For what I need it does everything and much much much more. I couldn't be happier.
Watched some Dish on it ,the resolution is great as far as I am concerned.
I don't get the must upgrade every 3 months for $400 to get 10 extra pixels res everyone does, hell I had a flip phone the past 10 years...

Most of the "chain upgrade" people are doing it to take advantage of the phone price subsidy, so they're usually paying a fraction of that - and if they don't that "subsidy" is part of the umpteen dollars a month they're paying for their line already because the phone companies assume you're going to. So really if they don't they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Sensibly though with how close smartphones are getting to computers these days in power it's pretty likely that top of the line is going to start lasting people 3-4 years between upgrades at this point versus the infancy days where every year was a quantum leap.

(Barring something extreme in power difference cropping up, the wife and I are sticking to a theorem of 4 years right now for our M8s - probably go top of the line again in early 2018 though)

Lately my phones have been barely hanging on by the time I'm getting close to my upgrade. The last one I was seriously wondering if it was going to make it. Also, as Vaclav said, they are charging you for a new phone whether you get one or not so you might as well get one.

True there's the durability issue too I forgot to account for that - I've had good luck on that though, most I've had is a few cracks on my screen (and completely functional) on my first.

4.2.2 is respectable, I think that's what my parents' phones run as well.

As far as upgrades go, I plan on upgrading every 2 years or so like I used to, I just have to be smarter about it. I bought a Nexus 4 when I went postpaid last March, which was a step behind the flagships at the time but half the price. Being a nexus there is a lot options for roms, so I can somewhat satisfy the urge to upgrade by tinkering with the software instead. As this point it is starting to show it's age, so I'll be looking for a similar type of phone by early next year: good specs, lots of rom options, and a good price. That will probably mean whatever the next Nexus is, but a phone like the OnePlus One could also fit the bill at that point.

I currently have a Nexus 4 and cannot think of a single reason to get rid of it other than "want latest because it is out there." Granted, I wouldn't call myself a power-user, but it still runs butter-smooth, screen is perfectly acceptable for watching porn on the toilet, battery still does fine. I am perfectly content, but will probably get a Nexus 6 if/when they come out only because I can.

Watching porn while shitting just seems like it would open all sorts of physical issues. If you don't live alone just do what everyone else does and wait until the woman falls asleep and then bust out the tentacle porn with earphones on.
