My StockQuote app thing (made for BB10, not android) was taking up 3-4% battery and that was just checking it and closing the app after I got my stocks refreshed- 2-3 times a day- that's insane amount of battery...so I reported it to the dev etc.. I only looked because literally I could tell that 3-4% was missing from my average battery flow- I was getting home with about 29-33% rather than the standard 38-42 (50 on a light day)- so I opened the batter thing built into BB10 and it was quite accurate on its reporting I must say.

Just got a notice from Verizon that my wife's iPhone 6 64gb shipped today ahead of their scheduled date of around 10/21/14- so we will see how she likes it, her 5 has the battery life of a dead cat... She is always using my phone when we get home, or are in the car or any of the other 100 times she has to charge the thing to get it to turn back on- and it likes to "turn off" itself due to battery even when it says 30-40% sometimes... dumb apple...but she is "in the ecosystem!"

Question regarding phone cameras...

Is there any quality difference in using a 3rd party app to take pictures as opposed to the built-in camera app on an Android phone, or is the picture quality always going to be completely the same? I'm just curious if it's 100% hardware based, or if the software app can have much, if any say in the matter.

My wifes LG G2 takes just absolutely horrendous pictures in almost all situations if you aren't using the flash, or outdoors in direct sunlight. Everything is always pixelated and blocky, I guess due to somewhat low light, but it's situations where my Note 3(and S4 before that) would take perfectly fine pictures. The G2 camera can't be that terrible, I wouldn't think...

If you bend your iPhone, it's your own damn fault. 70 fucking lbs of force doesn't just happen by carrying it around in your skinny jeans, you hipster cry baby fgt's.

I really hope the Nexus 6 isn't going to be that big. I think a 5.2 inch screen would be fine, but 5.92 is just too big for my taste.

I personally don't have any experience with 3rd party apps, so I can't say for sure, but some of the issues you are listing could be software based. For example, pixelated/blocky pictures could be the software cranking up the ISO to compensate for the light, when perhaps a slower shutter speed would do the trick (allowing you to use a lower ISO and thus have less blocky pictures). I don't know if this is specifically true of the G2 or not, just saying it is a possibility.

I will say that the camera on my Nexus 4 is pretty underwhelming compared to other phones, but I wouldn't use any camera phone available for anything more than quick snapshots anyways.

Holy crap. I definitely agree. Here I was all about ready to jump on the[email protected]/* <![CDATA[ */!function(t,e,r,n,c,a,p){try{t=document.currentScript||function(){for(t=document.getElementsByTagName('script'),e=t.length;e--;)if(t[e].getAttribute('data-cfhash'))return t[e]}();if(t&&(c=t.previousSibling)){p=t.parentNode;if(a=c.getAttribute('data-cfemail')){for(e='',r='0x'+a.substr(0,2)|0,n=2;a.length-n;n+=2)e+='%'+('0'+('0x'+a.substr(n,2)^r).toString(16)).slice(-2);p.replaceChild(document.createTextNode(decodeURIComponent(e)),c)}p.removeChild(t)}}catch(u){}}()/* ]]> */bandwagon but as an owner of an HTC One (M8) I couldn't possibly see how I could get this phone to bend like that under any normal circumstance.

Hear tell that Grindr app goes bananas in gyms. Turn it off.
ironically my new gym is a gay gym (long story short, it's probably the best gym in downtown Philly that doesn't cost $100+ a month), so i would imagine it probably would be.

Have you gone into your settings and looked at which apps are draining your battery? I noticed Facebook was a particularly thirsty app, one nice feature Apple finally imported from the android market. (and some apps are notorious bad like okcupid) so I turned off the background refresh on Facebook. I'm generally getting a full day of use out of my iPhone 6 and that's with heavy usage, and about 15 minutes of car charging a day.
i'm not too sure what i had running in the back, not either of those two apps i don't have Facebook installed yet, i don't thing anything too hardcore.

It bends much easier around the volume button than directly in the middle. And it's fairly easy to do. It's just due to Apple trying to limit the weight of the 6+ which results in a thinner case. And where the volume buttons are, a lesser chassis.

ScummVM is badass!! Currently playing curse of monkey island with keyboard/mouse via OTG cable. Apparently all 3 work as well as most old school sierra games. Plays damn near perfect too.

I don't think there is much to bend gate but it didn't look like it took him all that much effort to bend the iPhone 6. Still I'm not sure the last time I put my Note 2 in a position where it could be bent.

Yeah I thought of that when I saw that other video above with the testing. They didn't press it in it's weak spot, but I suppose it's a fairly accurate test method. 70lbs pressure isn't a lot to be honest. Not when it's in a pants pocket, and you bend over or are sitting down or something, you can easily exert 70lbs pressure. Our legs are one of our strongest muscles there are. And if it's like any other aluminum, lesser pressure over and over could weaken it to a lower bending point. I'm sure skinny pants don't help the matter either, because any movement you make will exert force on the phone. I do feel for iphone users, I'd be pissed if I bought one and it bent too. People are just going to have to limp along this generation without pocketing the 6+'s then, or at least not the skinnypants wearers.

Another interesting fact, considering this is made out of aluminum, and is probably about the thickness of a popcan. It kind of puts into perspective how fragile this thing really is.
Typically it takes between 100 and 170 pounds to crush an empty soda can. It varies depending on the can construction thickness and individual can flaws.

No it's not. The M8 requires 70 lbs of pressure to bend, while the report shows i6+ requires 90 lbs. The video of the guy bending the i6+ with his fingers show that there is a flaw in the design of the chassis.

I'm not completely fresh on my physics but isn't a 3 point test on a rounded back a tad unrealistic for real world issues versus a flat one?

Deflection versus absorbing all the force in one direction, etc?

Not to mention force to bend isn't necessarily an issue if things return to shape, many bends have been demonstrated that are bounced back from with no real lasting damage or minor notable damage, versus what the iPhone 6 has been demonstrating.

Ya the dude bent it in that video with 10 pounds of force. It took 70/90 to totally fuck it up, but it bent after just 10 lbs.

Truthfully people treat their phones like shit anyways, but when you can bend it and see it bend after 10 lbs of force even if it still functional, I wouldn't pay hundreds for it and I sure as fuck wouldn't contract for 2 years for it.

I had a long post...talking about my exp with aluminum in the realm of paintball markers milling etc... but I didn't check stay logged in and lost my cookie apparently..

so...

aluminum bends, that's why its good at holding pressure, it wont crack/break it bends/flexes... and 70 pounds is nothing, long term lowish 40-50 pressure will bend aluminum no problem, esp that thin

on that note, my wife got her 64gb iPhone 6 in yesterday- she could not think of even trying to use the plus as even this one is on the large side for her. Its a pretty phone however.

I pre-ordered a Note 4 the other day. I'm really looking forward to it coming in. My neighbor has a Note 3, and playing with it a little bit, it's vastly better than my "old" Galaxy S3.

Had a question about SIM cards though. Will the phone come with a new one, or will I need to get that on my own? I could always steal the one from my S3, but I think my wife is going to take that as opposed to her iPhone 5c, just because she prefers the pictures on the S3.

The phone should come with one, assuming you specified your carrier when you bought it. If not you should be able to get one at a Verizon store or use your old one as you said. I would think your wife could take the one out of her iphone as well.
