Yes but I only got the invite because my order in the queue had been cancelled due to some bug they had with PayPal.

I didn't do anything, man. I woke up and saw an invite for an OPO in my email first thing. Then I got to my computer and realized they cancelled my preorder and sent the invite automatically so I could reorder. I just thought it was a coincidence and that I'd be able to skip the preorder queue with the invite I had received.

No shit right. I have had AdAway or something similar to it since my Motorola Droid X and haven't seen ads effectively ever on Android... holy crap are they bad. I'm seriously considering selling my retail Note 4 and getting the Developers Edition so I can get rid of this shit and get some of the other great things for rooted phones. What am I, a peasant!?

I have never rooted a phone before, but I also have a note 4, and it just bugs me to no end how it seems like EVERYTHING runs in the background. With "no apps" running on the stock app manager i have like 1.9 / 2.7 gb of ram in use. Is that normal? I think its just sad that a powerhouse like that gets eaten up by Verizon and Samsung stuff. It just makes me wish I could have a Nexus phone with that same screen / body style / hardware etc.

Also how difficult is it to root a phone, I've heard of people bricking their phones and I wouldn't want to something like that if its a complicated process / beyond my means.

Free ram is wasted ram.

You can still disable apps in settings you don't want active at all. Say at&t navigator or other crapware.

Rooting is generally a simple process but don't hold your breath for the note 4 to ever get it. Especially with lollipop coming so soon.

Lollipop changes security in a big way and without kernel level access root will not be possible.

Samsung devices have had that Knox security crap and sometimes encrypted bootloaders, so getting root can be difficult.

I installed a kludged together version of 5.0 on my Nexus 4 this weekend and it's pretty nice. It's running what Google uploaded to AOSP and the framework pulled from the Nexus 6 on top of mostly 4.4 drivers and binaries since the factory image isn't out yet, but it works quite well. Runs smoothly and I haven't had many bugs other than bluetooth is a bit slow to connect and battery life isn't great, but that should improve once the factory image come out.

Overall this looks like a version of android that I may stay with just rooted stock for more than a few weeks before I start feeling the need to switch to a more modified rom.

The Note 4 has already been rooted. AFAIK the only carriers that do not have root are AT&T and Verizon (which I have). Even so, Verizon's Developers Edition is rooted already. But as he pointed out, root is going to be likely impossible in Lollipop.

Most people don't buy the developer edition phones at full price and you're right I should of clarified which carrier was locking down devices. People can also buy the T-Mobile version and use it in at&t.

They said this about KASLR on iOS as well. Several releases later and it's still being broken.
Well apple sucks at it and android devices for a good while now, since efuse and to a lesser extent knox , have been successfully locking down device boot loaders. When lollipop comes, without access to that, root will be virtually impossible. There will likely always be devices like the one + which won't be locked down but options for enthusiasts are about to take a dump starting with this generation of devices and get far more limited with the next.

This iPhone 6 plus is just too big for my tastes and I haven't really adjusted after more than a month with this phone. Think I'm gonna sell it and go to the smaller 6 or go with the Xperia Z3 Compact. Any one have any experience with the latter? I did read about the boot loader unlock issues with the camera but that's about it.

Really? Fucking why? Guess I'll never upgrade and I'll have to find an alternative to android when I'm done with this phone.
Sorry I should have clarified. If you have a locked boot loader, you're more or less fucked for root if you upgrade to Lollipop.

TLDR Version:Root has to be at the kernel level, and you can't install custom kernel without root. If the bootloader is locked, you are out of luck since you can't flash a custom kernel.Or something.

If you have a Nexus phone you should be fine:Chainfire has updated CF-AutoRoot. Root available for Android 5.0 Lollipop on Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi and Nexus 10. (

Went into a Verizon store yesterday and just for a laugh asked the guy helping me when the Nexus 6 was coming out on Verizon. He had of course never heard of the Nexus 6 and went in the back and googled and then came back to report that it was delayed on T-Mobile and maybe it would be on Verizon in December which I'm sure is what it said on the first result on Google. It always amazes me how people that spend all day every day talking to people about phones know so little about them. I check the Verge or something similar maybe 2-3 times a month and I always know more about phones than the people that sell them for a living.

He did have some great news for me that I could buy a bluetooth headset to solve my defective headphone jack issue.
