No doubt he is an amazing player. Often the best player on the field for RM. Works tirelessly and drives forward. However I'm gonna have to agree with Brando, I just can't see where he fits into lvg 352 system. Nice to see such an awesome player linked but ill see who else is signed in the next week to compliment him. Apparently he's the first of 3 signings. A good cm and cb would see us competing easily for a top 4 spot which is what this season is about. Adopting lvg philosophy and building the team to the level it should be (which is what should have happened last seadon)

If you watched Real Madrid last year, you'd know that he played both RM/RW/LM/LW and CM, actually a lot of games as a CM.

But, Van Gaal has said plenty of times, that he prefers the 433 formation, which is also what the youth squad has switched too. He opted with the 352 formation, because of the players he had available.

Nevertheless, a player like Di Maria, who I thought was Real Madrid's second best player last season, is an amazing signing, if this turns out to be true.

As Brando suggests, 3-5-2 and you leave out wingers. 4-3-3 and you leave out strikers. Perhaps he'll be a good CM - all I've read on blog reports of his last season as a midfielder for RM have been highly positive. Great work rate, class on the ball and passing, tactically aware. Either way I can't wait to find out how he'll do there, come on announce the signing!

First time I'm hearing that we only have 1 decent center back.

No, he went with it, because he didn't have, what he considered, world class wingers.

Price is really high, but you're asking to get fleeced when you back yourself into a corner like this. Wonder if Rojo signing had any influence on this xfer from Di Maria's viewpoint? He was easily the best player in the CL final last season and I think he'll do well.

Also, what the fuck does Kagawa have to do to get a game, and how does Cleverly continue to steal a living and start matches??

Di Maria didn't play at the base of midfield for RM, he played either as a 10 linking the attack or a winger so again you're going to have to sit someone and a 4-3-3 doesn't fit the personal at all. The youths played a 3-5-2 vs. LFC u21's as well so I have no idea what you're talking about in regards to 4-3-3 being preferred.

Anyway, the whole team looked pretty poor against Sunderland but lets spend a shit load for a player that's not even needed! It's like all or nothing now, if MUFC don't get top 4 this year the whole thing will come tumbling down IMO

Using a 3-0-3 formation instead of the 3-5-2 wasn't going to help things. Di Maria could still feature in there as anything would be an improvement over todays midfield. Having Januzai in there felt like an audition too.

I'm hoping for a win but expecting a draw. Should be a good game regardless can't wait, leaving work to go watch it.

Balotelli confirmed, still pretty amazed. Unfortunately can't play today but next week against Spuds should be interesting.

Expecting a loss. Away to City, team hasn't gelled yet, few attacking options. City has their full squad except Negredo and Mangala.

I'd be thrilled with a draw.

e: Scratch that, Johnson starting. I'd be thrilled not to lose by 3 goals.

Going well so far, 3-0 down, toothless up front, diabolical in defence. Should be 4-0 really with the missed penalty from the awful ref call.

Terrible defending really - Is Balotelli a CB? Don't think LFC have been that bad either, just shit defending on those 3 goals.

The defending wasn't terrible until the 3rd goal which was just no pressure on the ball to allow that type of pass, Aguero will beat any CB to that type of ball so you need to not allow for the pass in the first place. Goals one and two are just individual issues, especially the 2nd where the left side steps up and Skrtel and Johnson stay back to allow all type of space. Aside from that I thought the game was pretty even and while you can't complain with a City win I think the scoreline flatters them for the overall play. Of more concern would be a potential injury to Moreno as we don't have any other healthy LB for Spuds if he is injured.

That defensive mistake just before the break was the catalyst. Scoreline flattered City. They deserved the win, but Liverpool for the most part made a good account of themselves.

Meh, it's a stretch to think Suarez would have changed anything in the game. We were setup well and certainly created more than City, just individual mistakes get punished at this level which our defenders made and City didn't until that one at the end where Lambert should have just shot. I'm not concerned, we'll learn from this and I'm sure come out of the gate quick against Spuds with Lallana and Balotelli coming into the squad. Markovic looked amazing as well in his short time, wish he would have started in hind sight.

Great thing is you don't have to travel far to buy a city jersey when you switch clubs.
