ikr? I remember so many random groups where people were talking about the deepest/weirdest/funniest shit late into the night. While it was mostly to cope with the monotonous grind of doing the same actions over and over again it was still good times.
I have the strangest urge to roll a Troll SK or Shaman right now, and kill people in a group like that, while they pull too many mobs and their enchanter is AFK.

If EQ was released today it would be shit on so quick it would have never made it a month.
Glad it came out in 1999 when computer online gaming wasn't huge yet, and the amount of places to bitch, and complain were very small.
Even my Home server Sol Ro probly got 3k at peak hours during Vanilla.

It doesn't have the same feeling though. Auction houses, guild halls, player housing, etc. all contribute to less socializing in mmos.

I'd love the game Wizardry was trying to sell but EQ definitely wasn't that game either. EQ could be hard solo and when you first started out. After that, grouping was really easy. Raids were hard but half of that was because of shitty game design. WoW still has harderdesignedlate game content.
The difference today is people want to play the game and not have a nerd-fest chatroom. Hell, half the time we sat around bullshitting late was because we had to wait on some jackass to show up. Or the bathroom breaks that lasted 10-20 minutes. Or the 10-20 minute waits to recover from someone fucking up. It wasn't the challenge that drove people crazy. It was dealing with shitty game mechanics and hoping that the game was completed where you were adventuring. Hoping that anyone at SOE had put time in fixing problems and making the game work properly. Such a poorly designed game.
In 2015, people look for a ton more out a game than EQ delivered at any point.

Unfortunately the zek servers used gfay but on my blue alts I recall ec tunnel being much more lively than a simple trading hub as found in other games.
I remember walking between people trading and taking stuff like jade maces right after kunark launched. People trying to bait and switch small cloth shirts as fungi tunics. Training Sgt slate or griffons to the tunnel. Dueling and fearing people (which made them attackable by everybody back in the day) running unwinnable gambling operations, etc.

You're dead wrong. Linda is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. She was an incredible public face for SOE.

I think hes referring to the tranny LARPing dwarf thing, which to the unaffiliated is kind of odd until you figure out wtf is going on. I.E. When my wife walked in on me watching SOELive the year of the EQN reveal and had some strong questions for me "Are you cackling while typing on your retarded forum again? What the fuck is that, Is that a woman, what are you watching?"

You think causes some double takes on a tv you should see the reactions taking cab rides with her and wandering around vegas. Still she was very loved by the community it was always pretty amazing at the soe lives she would stop for nearly anybody asking to talk with her and would chit chat with any and all. She is also my best friends wife so no dissing mah dwarf!
