wonder if this movie will have no full resolve and spill over into a 2nd? hell QoS was more like a long wrap up of royale and an overly long "intro mission" that usually start "old" bond movies.

Well the makers have a lot of work to do to convince me to pay for this after skyfall.

This being about S.P.E.C.T.R.E is a big plus, but I can't help feeling the best bond movies are the ones that did not have a personal story to also tell about James Bond. Which is the vibe I got from that trailer.

Okay let me not make generalized or exaggerated statements or quotes from the trailer.

I suppose I am confused on if you are saying that the vibe you go was that it was...or was not to be a personal story about bond...

I do not see how you got the vibe from the trailer that there would not be "personal story" as in the trailer we see at the beginning Bond is given a box of stuff that has been "recovered from Skyfall" - as we know Skyfall was the most "personal" story elements of any Bond thus far. We then are seen him holding up a burned picture and then we cut to a house with voice over of someone greeting him that obviously Bond knows, and the person knows Bond as he is startled by birds. Then we see, what we can assume is the SPECTRE counsel with the man in the shadows that again - knows Bond and welcomes him etc.

While I agree that the "best bonds are those that did not have a personal story" is correct - as with the "old" bond movies the only personal storyline there is - is him bedding the hotties. However the "reboots" or whatever, starting with Casino are obviously all based in telling the story of Bond as an agent and his growth etc. It can be said (and has been somewhat) that the "old" movies are all after he is a "seasoned old" 00- agent and the "new" movies are all his beginnings and history. I then also agree that this movie looks good and supremely better than QoS and Skyfall - but both of those movies where needed- they are just very different than what we have been used to with the "old" bond movies.

SPECTRE will either be the "real" Quantum, or the result of Quantum being dismantled by Bond somewhere along the way between QOS and Skyfall I guess.

Blofield as his foster brother, wat?

The circle will be complete...Bond inspired Austin Powers...and now Austin Powers will inspire Bond.

Yeah, let me clear that up.

The vibe I got was that this movie would indeed have a personal story to tell. And that to me is a negative.

Personally, I think the best bond movies are the ones with interesting larger than life villians. Of which the unwinding of whatever scheme they have is the main plot.

The personal story/angle, I just don't get why we need it. He is a mystery (bond) and that is part of his appeal.

I like the Daniel Craig version of Bond. The character was becoming stale and out of time, campy was fine in the time of Roger Moore but Pierce Brosnan's movies were straight up shitfests.
There were two ways to go, carry on until the character becomes an even more tiresome parody of itself and the movies fade away or reinvent it for the time it's in.

For that you need a deeper character.

A Bond who hatefucks women and can't shoot straight from the DT shakes, with a face that keeps looking more and more like it's been used as a punching bag, whose jokes are sardonic rather than flippant. You have to go all the way back to From Russia With Love to find that character in the movies.

Also, if the first couple of Craig movies were about establishing the return to pre-camp Connery and the source material, then Skyfall was mostly about fully separating him from Jason Borne. He's not a super ninja terminator, he gets the job done mostly because of his magnificent penis. (literally and figuratively, of course)

I don't need a deeper character, I don't need Bond to be humanized and I don't need to know he was not loved by his daddy.

The first 5 to 10 mins of Casino Royale is all I need.

A sophisticated gentleman who appreciates the finer things in life. And when required is an absolute brutal killing machine (and toss in a side of fucking whatever super hot babe is within arms reach).

If this is Sean Connery V2, I have zero problems with that. I really don't want to see a Roger Moore (who had his day) a Timothy Dalton (ever) or Pierce Brosnon (who kind of ran out of steam) Bond.

I am not quite getting the Penis references though...

Still the best chase scene ever. Parkour guy hopping around while Bond just blasts through doors. Capped off by Bond straight murdering the guy on camera in front of like 30 (armed) witnesses.

It set a rather high bar for everything since. Which is probably why they haven't been able to match it, because that's just absurdly awesome.

EDIT: Oops, forgot the opening was actually the flashback of his first MI6 kills, with the awesome clever use of the "spin and shoot the camera" bit.

Maybe I'm the only one who don't like the new bond/bourne style that much.

If only Quantum had a proper villain, he wasn't bogged down by personal niceties in that one. RIP Mathis.
