8472 wasn't more advanced or powerful I don't believe, they were just far different than anything encountered before. Everything they did was biogenic and organic, something never encoutnered before then.

I think in terms of powerfulness, besides Q I would probably rank Kevin Uxbridge (the only Douwd to ever be encountered in the trek univerise that I'm aware of) near the top on the same level as Q or close at least. The Traveler ranks up too according to cannon.

Ran out of recent stuff to watch on hulu/Netflix so I started voyager... dunno why but I got back into it better than I did trying TNG... and no I didn't skip to the 7 of 9 parts

That's because you have bad taste. TNG >> Voyager. Any Trekkie can tell you that.

Maybe it is the rose colored glasses or something but I am currently halfway through season 5 of DS9 and although I will be finishing up the series there is no way this is better / or close to TNG.

I did skip season 1 and most of 2 on Voyager to start watching it. I can't do that on TNG I feel like I have to start from the begining... But its not ds9, where skipping is bad... I think I'll try some TNG tonight, maybe that one with scotty.

I don't think they ever fully explained it on the show, all that I can recall is that their two species had some dealings in the past and that Guinan's people were always kept a mystery save that they might be immortal and that they may have suffered from the Borg.

Maybe someone else can add more.

Just finished Season 5 and its getting MUCH better. Now given that it took 5 years for the show to get to this point cant be good but now I find myself wanting to watch more instead of just when I am really really bored.
