Yeah this is totally disappointing. Its totally being rushed to coincide with the movie release. This was the one I was looking for the most ever since I heard about it. Now, after hearing more about it? No thanks.

This is what DLC, preorders, and early access gets you. As long as morons keep hastily buying this bullshit, the more they will sell to you piecemeal.

They are just cutting the fat to give us a first rate experience. I'm in.

I mean, if they weren't money hungry buttsluts they could do it, but the level of detail nerds demand with every game is the reason they limit the # of maps to fucking 8 instead of 20+. They could totally reuse textures and shit and give you 20 but then some dingus on IGN would take points off a review before release that says "REUSED TEXTURES" and the "Crysis Inquistion" type people would start a huge fuss catching casuals in their tornado of butthurt and losing them sales. So they make 8 maps. 6 of them probably really well and 2 "fuck it"s a few days from their due date.

This is why I'm in the 'gameplay over graphics' camp. That and because I don't update my GPU every year.

Where's the announcement of a new X-Wing v Tie Fighter game?

Obviously if it ever happened, it would probably be butchered and ruin the memories I have of the original.

But if they got it right, taking advantage of occulus rift and VR shit...

Hell, you wouldn't even have to change mechanics, missions, or anything. Just give it modern graphics and it would be a winner.

This needs to be plastered everywhere to mock EA up and down and deter people from ordering any of their garbage on this one.

With an automatic release date which cannot be pushed due to the movie tie in, we already know how fucking awful this will be.

On the positive side, if I am unhappy with the game I now have a chance of revenge. EA/Dice Digital Illusions moved their offices across the street from my work, I run into people with EA/Dice badges fucking everywhere around lunch these days so at least I can throw food at them and yell!

And that would be a good thing? I never played the original BF but can completely half ass this and severely regress the state of the game compared to it's predecessors, how is that a positive?

I'll just watch the bar get lowered for the standard of what content should be in a game for full price and shake my head, again?

This is almost Evolve (Actually pretty much is) content on release. I fear what even lower can get after, yes, this does sell because it's a star wars game in front of a major film launch.

Well, the thing is, studios have wanted to increase prices on games for a while now. They were able to push through a 60$ pricepoint on "console" games about 10-15 years ago, without too much bitching (despite 50$ being the maximum on most PC games at the time) and that slowly bled over to some PC games. Steam came along and blew much of that apart (on the PC side) with sales, bundles, etc. So, rather than force through another price hike to 70 or 80$, which they know gamers would flip over, they use psychological tools like DLC, preorders, "content" packs/patches, etc. to incrementally increase the pricepoint of games, without sending the masses into a frenzy. Most gamers usually justify this stuff because of the aforementioned psychological targeting. Gamers think they are getting a "deal" by only paying 5-10$ for "content", without using enough critical thinking to realize that cost may as well be baked into the original price of the game, because studios have intentionally withheld content so that they can sell it to you piecemeal.

Good thing the cost of making a video game has dropped significantly over the years. Hardware is significantly cheaper than it was 20 years ago and game engines which used to cost hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars cost nothing nowadays. Needing a few hundred people to churn out a title? Thats a management issue.
