i saw that Holiday Special on TV when i was at my grandparents house. i was 7. it was really cool. kids shows, really small kids shows are unwatchable for adults. it wasnt anything shocking that the Holiday Special was bad for older people. Lucas writes bad dialogue/stories , he just calls it "aimed at kids" and tosses in some muppets to get a pass.
Every Christmas I used to watch Emmet Otter and his Jug Time band Christmas special or whatever. There were always specific shows that used to come on during the holiday season that is a kid you watched every year. Was great stuff sitting by the Christmas tree and watch him something fun when you were little.i saw that Holiday Special on TV when i was at my grandparents house. i was 7. it was really cool. kids shows, really small kids shows are unwatchable for adults. it wasnt anything shocking that the Holiday Special was bad for older people. Emmet Otter was HBO, so was the Fraggles. my whole family used to watch the Rich Little Christmas Carol on HBO. i can close my eyes and see my dad laughing his ass off to those corny jokes. fun times.Every Christmas I used to watch Emmet Otter and his Jug Time band Christmas special or whatever. I don't remember but I think that was Jim Henson if I had a guess, but I also used to watch Fraggle Rock religiously when I was a kid. So one of the best intro songs ever made.

Yeah I guess we had HBO the whole time we were growing up because cable was a new thing, and I don't think it was expensive to have it or maybe they didn't charge and it was just included in whatever service you got. We used to have the Disney channel 2 and I remember watching things like Condor Man and the Edison twins.Emmet Otter was HBO, so was the Fraggles. my whole family used to watch the Rich Little Christmas Carol on HBO. i can close my eyes and see my dad laughing his ass off to those corny jokes. fun times.

HBO certainly wasn't free anywhere we lived and it wasn't cheap either. Maybe yall just had an illegal descrambler.Yeah I guess we had HBO the whole time we were growing up because cable was a new thing, and I don't think it was expensive to have it or maybe they didn't charge and it was just included in whatever service you got. I remember watching all these old Christmas specials that they would put on annually. I don't think they do anything like that anymore do they.
No we didn't but we were in New Orleans at the time and perhaps my mom had gotten some sort of deal with a cable package. I know she's specifically wanted us to have the Disney channel to be able to watch cartoons and old Disney movies back before they were gay and trying to steal kids.HBO certainly wasn't free anywhere we lived and it wasn't cheap either. My memory isn't great, but HBO and basic package in the early 80s was something like 30 to 40 dollars a month. Which is a great deal. People used to go to the movies every week and a family of 4 was still like 10 to 15 dollars a week with popcorn and drinks. Then gas to drive there. Remember there was a "gas shortage" (bullshit) back then, so there was a lot of price gouging. 30 to 40 a month for uncensored uninterrupted movies and original entertainment was easily a huge bargain. We watched MTV and HBO mainly. HBO really wasn't necessary after we got our VCR, but we loved our MTV.HBO certainly wasn't free anywhere we lived and it wasn't cheap either. I was lucky to go to one movie a month; it was more like 2 or 3 movies a year.My memory isn't great, but HBO and basic package in the early 80s was something like 30 to 40 dollars a month. you also got perfect TV reception through the coaxial. before we got cable, we had static on our TV no matter how much we fumbled with the rabbit ears. there were a lot of pluses with having cable. my dad was making good money in the late 70s as a computer programmer, new Caddy, new house, we attended private school, new big console Zenith TV, we had the Atari 2600 the first week it came out with a bunch of games which on their own were not cheap. so yeah we went to the theater every week until we got cable which was awesome and it saved money.I was lucky to go to one movie a month; it was more like 2 or 3 movies a year.
We would just rent them once they came out on video. Even 3 movies at Blockbuster were like $5, and those were available months before HBO would be showing them. So, 3 movies a week was $20 a month, to rent exactly what we wanted, 2 or 3 months before HBO got them, verses $20 - $40 for HBO meant HBO did not look like a great deal for my parents.
Also, I would rather rent games than go to the theater or watch movies at home, if I was given an either/or demand.
I remember my mom never took us to go see movies, but my dad and stepmom used to go see movies all the time so if we were visiting, because every few weeks, we're at the movie theater. They also down 45 South close to clear Lake had a dollar movie theater. You can take everybody and get popcorn stuff, and we'd stop at eckerd's forehand the pick up some candy and my stepmom will put it in her purse, and it would cost all of maybe 10 bucks for the four of us.I was lucky to go to one movie a month; it was more like 2 or 3 movies a year.

You used to be able to get HBO as a stand-alone channel for about $9/month.No we didn't but we were in New Orleans at the time and perhaps my mom had gotten some sort of deal with a cable package. I know she's specifically wanted us to have the Disney channel to be able to watch cartoons and old Disney movies back before they were gay and trying to steal kids.
Maybe she just decided to splurge a bit to be able to watch movies. I remember every Saturday night HBO did their new addition type thing, and sometimes we'd sit around and watch whatever movie was coming out if it was decent enough for being young. I don't remember how many times I used to get up super early in the morning because the Last Starfighter was on or something like that. Space Hunter: adventures in the forbidden zone, etc.
I remember at one point I was watching Bachelor Party, and my sister ratted me out at my mom he's watching boobs. Oh those were such better times.
We had one of those big dishes for a few years when I was a kid. All I remember is making it move from satellite to satellite, then clicking though a 100 channels of shit I didn't want to watch or they were talking some ooga booga gobily guke. It did prepare me to learn about how to set up a Dish TV descrambler PanSat box in the 2000's though. You used to be able to get HBO as a stand-alone channel for about $9/month.
You could tell which friends had it because they had a stupid antenna on their roof that liked like an arrow.
You also got a small little descrambler box with a push button that clicked and you’d have to switch to channel 3 to watch similar to the old Atari/consoles.
We had HBO for several years before mainstream cable came along. As mentioned in another thread, I saw my first naked woman at 6am watching The Shining (the young hot one before she transforms into the old hag).
Anyone remember these motherfuckers?

It comes to the same thing. Gay shit and breaking canon ruined the IP so bad that they can't even get the woke crowd to like it either. It's pretty sad considering the tech is so much better now that these movies and TV shows should be amazing. Nope, they aren't even as good as 41 year old star wars flicks.I wonder if at some point in the future these bloviating YouTube dorks will have the bravery & integrity to say ‘I’m just sick of all this gay shit’ instead of making up elaborate excuses for hating gay shit.
“breaking immersion” and “deviating from cannon” give me a fucking break lol
