I was raised around a bunch of hippies and bikers, so we always had one of those "hacked" cable boxes.
I can't find a picture of the standard one button box which we commonly had, but I do recall this bad boy which introduced me to Cinemax. Good times.

This is true, but it's not limited to Star Wars, zillenials, or leftists. The entirety of US culture right now is derivative and just trying to emulate/evoke art created during more meaningful times. And I don't think it's different anywhere else. The good creatives are stretched too thin across content industries trying to pump out too much content, and they are given budgets too big to force good creative decisions.
The only good art being made right now is indie games, which still tend to try to conjure the magic of old video games. But they actually pull it off and expand on retro gaming concepts in ways that weren't possible back then, or we didn't have the vocabulary to appreciate.

They are being given the reigns to large productions without the benefit of actual experience or real success. The woman who does The Acolyte and Rian Johnson are two prime examples of this. Neither have done anything beyond filling their CV's with garbage, yet they headed up some massive project$. To highlight the absurdity of Rian Johnson's Star Wars efforts, they went into production with the first draft of his script. No rewrites.
Further stacking absurdities, failures are rewarded. KK and Iger are examples of this. Kathleen Kennedy has 10+ years worth of experience turning gold into shit, yet she's still in charge. Iger is directly responsible for all of Disney's current maladies, and they put him back in charge.
And when you do get some good products, some dingleberry comes along and starts blowing things up. The woman in charge of Xbox did exactly that. Killing of good dev houses because she thinks every game should have AAA profits on AA budgets. Look at how quickly she is ruining what was a good product.
The list goes on and on, and it spans industries. CEO's and c-suites get paid massive amounts of money, so failure is completely irrelevant to them. And why not? They get rewarded no matter the outcome of their efforts.
