Yeah, as much of a huge fan as I am of the Star Wars classics, it's like some people expect to get that new car smell all over again with these new movies. Star Wars classic trilogy is like EverQuest guys, it was awesome because we were virgins to this stuff, now we are jaded old fucks and we see things differently.
But I can at least recognize that Disney is putting people in charge of these new movies that try to do things with the respect required for the legacy behind it, something that Lucas never did in the prequels, either because he had his own vision that turned to shit because of his army of yes-men, or because he had grown to hate his own creation because it overshadowed anything and everything he would accomplish from that point on.
I genuinely believe the man has a love/hate relationship with Star Wars with a passion because it ruined his career as a director, even if it made him a billionnaire.
Rogue One looks like an interesting angle on the Star Wars conflicts, for the first time ever we are going to see a movie from the point of view of ordinary characters that aren't fully covered by plot armor, and with a war movie vibe, without Jedi superheroes solving every plot point.
I look forward to seeing the attempt at least.
I love Star Wars, I liked The Force Awakens. Was it the best Star Wars? Hell no. But it FELT like Star Wars. It hit the right notes inside me to make me feel interested in the fate of the characters again, something I thought was impossible after the betrayal of the prequels. I'll NEVER love any of the new movies as much as I love the old ones, because I think it's simply impossible. There will never be a movie good enough to top the nostalgia and the endless memories that these movies gave to 5 year old me back then. But I'm happy they're doing more, I'm happy to see more of this stuff on the big screen, and I sure am happy that I'll be able to take my kid to see them too.
