Well, Katniss in Hunger Games is mostly a cog in the wheel. She gets some important moments outside the games, but the rebellion would have won even if she died.

My issue with Finn is
Yes this is what concerns me, does he have the range/charisma to do what I think he is going to do? Sweaty and scared is not a character trait, unless they make him the viewpoint character. If he is the viewpoint character he is going to be Vaan in Final Fantasy, where you just want him to shut up and let the grown ups talk. Which is not good for this "diversity" thing people keep harping on. The way you get the racist idiots on board is if you make him a GOOD multi-faceted character, and not in a Samuel L Jackson "badass motherfucker" way.

That's gonna come down to direction. Is that what JJ wanted from him in all of his scenes? Somehow I'm doubting it.

And of course the context matters. Most of what we have seen of him have been from scenes connected with his assumed defection. He should look frightened and stressed in those. Ditto with Kylo Ren rushing at him with a light saber, if he hasn't been trained to use one himself. In the panning shot with Poe slapping him on the shoulder, he has more of the look of a man with purpose, because he is more in his element as a former stormtrooper.

Maybe they'll build up his character with some fuckawful lines about how sand makes his butthole itch and his knees ashy.

All the people getting angry about Finn being a main character and main jedi in the new trilogy

He's not the jedi, the girl is. Anyone with martial training can hold a glow stick. Finn proceeds to get his ass handed to him by Kilo Ren in the saber duel, one of the most one sided duels in cannon history. Also I saw a comment earlier about Ren being the big bad guy, don't worry there either. Ren is the apprentice ala Maul. The big bad won't be shown until episode 8. Big bad = Snoke as cringe worthy as that name is =/
I'm not sure why you spoilered that. But, if that's true, how does he live? You lose the most one sided saber fight in history with a sith and you live?

I guess that could be it. I was hoping it would be that Kylo is a sith with a heart of gold.

Or a sith with lots of white guilt.

What's funny about this is when the movie comes out it will either be great and nobody will care or remember. Or the movie will suck and at that point nobody will care or remember.

Considering how bad the last three sucked I'm curious if people have a low bar of "not sucking" now or has the pre-hype raised expectations to the point of nothing will work.

He's either in a Storm Trooper Helmet, or just ran w/ said Storm Trooper Helmet on, or In a Storm Trooper suit in the Desert or just in the Desert, or facing a mother fucking Sith Lord/Underling using a light saber he (possibly) doesn't understand, at least we know he's out classed by the guy that decides to make a Jesus style lightsaber crackling red lightning.

Here's my question about light sabers, must you hold them physically to use them or could a jedi or sith use one simply with their minds and if so couldn't they have multiple sabers going at one time?

After watching a few reaction videos to the trailer, people seem to think that the female voice that is narrating at the end of it is Leia's. It doesn't really sound like her to me. There even sounds like some British accent bleeding through when whoever it is says "the force". Has everyone else assumed it's Leia?

I thought it could be Lupita Nyong'o who we haven't even seen yet.

OH SHIT, not only is she a woman but also black! The racists and sexists are going to lose their shit!!!

When I watched the trailer the first time, I assumed/thought it was Leia myself. After a few more viewings I don't know who that could be. But I'm not as well versed in all the additional characters.

This point keeps coming up about the prequels and it really has nothing to do with anything. Different writers and directors and it is in the hands of Disney now which has done a fantastic job with the MCU.

It's like excpecting Nolans Batman to suck because of what Joel Schumacher did with Batman and Robin.

I have been thinking about this as I read the thread and as a white guy I am all for as many new positive black characters for black kids to look up to rather than the usual black lead role of gang member fuck the police hard boys. This might drive them to work to move away from that culture. (I know they are not all like that).

Not sure if this stance sounds racist?

I was told by Homsar that there will be very little hype, so this shouldn't be an issue.
