yeah, trying to say, "x is worse then Y", doesn't really work here. Because its not a linear scale. A movie might succeed at one thing, but fail at another.
The force awakens is a very watchable movie. you can put it on, shut off your brain, and be entertained. It utterly fails at other things. Characterization, moving the story forward compellingly, etc.
Its the difference between a bad movie that is entertaining, like The Room, for a bad movie that is just boring as shit, like.. idk, I don't remember the names of those pieces of shit.
cut out Jar jar, and TPM is almost a solid passable movie. The prequels all have the problem of being a bit boring sadly.
TFA is not boring, despite its flaws.
TLJ almost seems scientifically engineered to be an anti-movie. "making a sequel? ok, lets retcon everything. Also, part of a trilogy?, ok lets have a conclusion in part 2. character growth? nah. have the entire movie with no stakes, and nothing interesting? ok. Ruin legacy characters? on it!. Destroy any semblance of suspension of disbelief with countless fiction breaking elements? heck yeah."
I challenge anyone to write a movie that systematically derails a trilogy, or franchise as expertly as TLJ did.
