Is that based on the Tarkovsky novel? I have the DVD and something about Tarkovsky, Stanislaw Lem.... maybe I'm getting Solaris confused here. But Stalker sounds familiar.

first Stalker game is pretty badass once you get deeper into it and past the bugs. The "dungeons" are actually pretty good for a scary element. Angry psychic-powered objects getting thrown at you that you can't fight back against is good times.

I haven't indulged into the 2nd two games, are they any good in the same regard? I enjoyed some of the hardcore warfare in the cityscape near the end of the first game too.
Pripyat feels like a better game but with a weaker story than the first one. It is more focused on the urban warfare for the last half of the game so if that's what you were liking about the first this one goes really heavily into it. The recreation of Pripyat is very creepy and almost identical, very weird going into buildings that you've seen on film from the initial footage of the disaster and subsequent video tours of the area. It definitely feels like a smaller game but does not have the initial "you with a crappy pistol v. 8 bandits in a farm complex" starting roadblock that the first one had. Every time I replay STALKER I, for some reason, always turn down that guy's help on the first mission without even noticing and then get stuck with the autosave that happens immediately after and have to clear that area solo. I remember always going back and checking the difficulty setting in game and almost uninstalling a few times out of frustration because normal made for one of the most difficult games that I have ever played.

I heard that the third one is really bad and not really in tune with the other two at all so just skipped it. Pripyat is fun but it really makes you want to run through the first one again.

I'm a fucking idiot. Civ 5 Gold was on sale during the Steam sale for 12 bucks so I decided to pick it up.

I installed it yesterday only to realize I fucked up and bought the vanilla version by mistake.

Please post here if it goes on sale anywhere again. I really don't want to wait until the Steam Xmas sale.

Daily Deal on Steam right now is 50% off of "Expedition: Conquistador" for $9.99. I was looking for another turn based strategy game and this one seems to have had a decent reception.

It's a fun game, has some nice random elements/events while exploring. Can be a bit unforgiving and a little buggy, though.

I decided to jump right in and try the difficult campaign in iron man mode. My first hostile encounter was a random event in the mountains. It went poorly. I wracked up 5 critical injuries, one of which was one of my doctors. I blew through all my saved up rations and medicine nursing everyone back to health. But no one died, and now I am actually making some decent progress. The amazing thing is I actually won that battle, but it felt like a loss from all of the casualties. This is proving to be a pretty cool game.

Expeditions is actually really fucking awesome once you get over the clunkiness of some of the mechanics, especially resting/tinkering etc. By far the best kickstarter game I've played

Get Games is owned by Eurogamer (UK), so yeah it's legit. It also has the same problem as GMG and Gamersgate though, fuckers don't take AMEX.

Blame Amex for charging double the amount of fees to vendors as Mastercard and Visa

I preordered FF14 from Amazon but Get Games is $5 cheaper.. decisions decisions

Just found out, the "additional games" they will add next week like they do in all humble bundle sales, are Sacred Citadel, Risen, and Metro 2033.

Also just found out SR3 campaign can be played coop. Score.

The Midweek Madness on Steam of Rising Storm is $9.99, but if you already have Red Orchestra 2, it actually kicks it down to $4.99 as a loyalty bonus or something.

I think that's how it works, its $9.99 on the web page, but $4.99 for me on the Steam module.

If you didn't get Saints Row 3 on the steam deal, now is your chance
Just an FYI to people who buy this thinking they'll gift/trade the games they already own--they only give you two Steam keys. One for the main set of games (Risen 2, Sacred 2 Gold, Saints Row 2, and Saints Row: The Third) and one for the bonus set (Dead Island GOTY and Saints Row: The Third - The Full Package). I was expecting it to be like every other Humble Bundle I've bought and all the keys would be separate.

That still works for me as I don't own any of the games in the bundle except SR3 but with no DLC. If the list for the games to be added is correct, the only one I have is Metro 2033.

I've gotten more 'games' in Humble bundles the past 2 months than I've probably bought from Steam in the past 6 and that includes the summer sale and last christmas sale.

Nah, they stopped doing that over a year ago, when those people were buying up bundles for nothing and trading them for other games on Steam. They shit-canned a bunch of people's accounts for that.

Humble Bundle just gives a couple codes now and will just say "Humble Bundle X" or something, and the games are unlocked.

Other sites that do bundles, like groupees or indiegala, do separate codes though.

That's not entirely true I got a bundle like 7-8 weeks ago and it was codes per game. I think its more based on the bundle then anything.

The only humble bundles I've personally seen use grouped keys so far are the Android ones that come with Steam keys. Alan Wake, Shank, Red Faction/Darksiders, and Spiderweb Software bundles are all ones I bought this year and they had separate keys for everything, even DLCs.
