Any kind of tactics game. Top down shooter type games. Survivor games. Metroidvanias and other platformers. Top down adventure/puzzle games. Basically all the good controller based games are perfect for it. There’s hundreds of good ones out there, just sounds like they’re not your type of games?
Those sound like games you can just get on your phone?

There is a mobile version of brotato. My understanding it's development is done by someone not the original dev, so it's "different".

steam decks are on clearance on the steam store and you can use steam wallet (discounted regularly pretty much everywhere) to buy em

$297 for 64GB
$337 for 512GB

ive had a 512gb LE since it released and its great. gamestop stopped taking them as trade in and i don't really use mine outside of appointments or travel so just waiting to see if a new edition comes out otherwise i'd jump on the OLED model

I really just want a good hand held emulator with a good controller lol… the steam being able to do that- and play “real” games is a plus…

I haven’t had a “gaming pc” in 15 years so, a steam desk would be crazy for me

A few of my friends who got them on launch still use theirs on a regular basis. Steam has a great feature that tells you which games have been optimized, tested and to what extent.

It’s a really good emulator system. I thought I’d use it for that a lot but honestly being able to play my Steam games on it is awesome. I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

I’d get the oled refurbs if they’re still in stock, the screen is great.

I have a few games that are listed as unsupported but they run just fine, so that's not always the most reliable system but it's generally quite accurate.

One of the best things about Steam deck is how good and easy it is at allowing you to setup custom controller setups, with a lot of games having some great community setups you can just download. Makes it easy to play a lot of old PC games.

My co worker always buys the newest and sells the old one- like he just bought the white one, but he always asks for the highest used rate - he is OCD and keeps all his stuff clean so… better than rolling the dice on the e bay
