I finally got the 4.4 update and it ended up with my tablet stuck in a boot loop. Had to go get the Nexus Root Toolkit to fix it. Not a big deal, but I'm surprised this happened with an official upgrade from the regular stock version.

In the process, I came across a cute easter egg: go to settings -> about tablet, and tap on the Android version 4.4 many times quickly. Then, tap on the letter that comes up a few times.

Anyone using a Asus MeMO Pad 8? I'm a big fan of Asus and the 8in form factor seems like it would be perfect, also looking for bluetooth.

Yeah, I blame Apple for that. Everyone was fucking fine just numbering things (1,2,3,4,etc) or labeling them by year (2012,2013,etc) and then Apple stopped numbering their iPads, and now everyone thinks its trendy to do so.

It's confusing as fuck, and I'm sure many people have wasted time and money purchasing the wrong product because they can't tell what the hell is what.

Advice time!

I am going to get my girlfriend a tablet for Christmas and am deciding between the Surface 2 or the Ipad air.

As of this point I am heavily leaning towards the Surface 2 because it is more flexible (USB 3.0 for her passport drive, HDMI out for her monitor or the TV, etc) and here in Norway the 32GB Surface 2 is $215 LESS than the 32GB Ipad air. What is mostly tripping me up is that she has an iPhone and will be able to use her phone programs on the Air. The other benefits such as being smaller and more powerful with a better better screen are nice too.

I am just not sure the better screen/being slightly smaller and the apps thing, plus the sacrifice in flexibility, is worth the extra $200+ dollars. Thoughts?

Surface Pro 2 is a real computer in tablet form.

Ipad Air is a tablet...

200US more for an actual mobile tablet PC that can play Diablo3... vs an ipad that can play... angry birds.

Easy choice for me... but thats because I have an iPad and will be buying a Nexus7, Surface Pro will be replacing my laptop whereas the ipad is just something I let friends browse on...

Looking at Tablets today, really impressed by the Note 2014 10.1.
That is one sexy piece of hardware, and it weighs about as much as the Ipad air.

The note 8 is also really cool. I like it way more then the Mini 2.

The Surface pro 2 is awesome, but its just not a practical on the go tablet imho.

I have the 10.1 2014 in white. Not going to lie though, the price tag was ehhhh but damn it's sexy. I know this sounds odd but a big factor ended up being the fact that its default position is horizontal and it had physical buttons + the back/settings buttons. My wife and I fight over it.

I wanted the surface pro but not until my current laptop dies. By then, it will be pretty much completely a laptop replacement in specs.

I have a 1st gen Note 10.1 that I snagged for $150 on a sale earlier this year. My wife loves it, she barely even touches her laptop or Nook anymore. It's every bit as snappy and quick as my 1st gen Nexus 7, and the battery life is solid too.

Ooooh the battery. Also sexy. I used it for 7 hours on a flight to Hawaii watching movies the entire time. It started at 96% and when I landed it was still showing 49%.

Just picked up a nexus 7 2nd gen for my younger son. I stymied on the staples deal from a week ago but still got the 16 gb for $199.
