I'll still go see this. I liked Salvation.

My brain is the size of a chickpea and I have the iq below that of a dung beetle.

Is this crashing and burning not a good thing? As I understand it, if this one flops our beloved James Cameron gets the rights back 2019 (currently Ellison is planning another 2 movies until 2018, but those could be shitcanned if this one fails).

I think i read Cameron will get the rights back in 2019 and there will be sequels, regardless this movie's success.

Atleat it would be unique
This is the funniest part of the thread and sadly I think you were being honest. Cameron is everything we claim to hate about Lucas. He has never had an original thought in his life. That includes Harlan Ellison's Terminator.

I was referring to special effects in his movies. Even if you hate avatar the special effects and 3d were amazing, the same went for T2 and Titanic at the time. Even if he makes a movie that sucks atleast plus sides to shit like Avatar and Titanic and hope for a movie like Aliens, Abyss, Terminator. Regardless the movie will have amazing visuals

He only created one great thing (Terminator) and it was not his idea.

Saw it friday.

Was not the worst installment of the terminator-saga, and considering the newspaper here gave it a 1/6 I was plesantly suprised. Action from about 5 min in until the last 5 min, decent popcorn flick. Sure, they gave away the "big twist" but it was actually a rather ok story behind it. I think this is the first time that they at least tried to take all the previous time-jumps into account and run the story based on that.

They have scripts for two more movies according to an interview with Arnold, and I would not be too sad to see them make those before the rights goes back.

(Also, why is it released in europe the 25th of june and worldwide on july 1st? Or did I miss something?)

You would think that Skynet would learn that it shouldn't make any of the t-800 or t-880 lines. Those seem to be the ones fucking up its plan the most.

I agree. I don't care if the ideas aren't his, Cameron is an innovator and pioneer in the special effects world. You see the progression with that water tentacle thing in The Abyss, which was the first CGI water AND first computer generated three dimentional character put in film. That was the foundation for the much improved T-1000 liquid metal villain in Terminator 2. Cameron won an Academy Award for Visual Effects for each year he made those two movies.

Titanic's film legacy speaks for itself.

Then you also have Avatar. While the plot and story are pretty "meh" and very unoriginal, again the visual effects were stunning and he pioneered the new technologies that had to be created specifically for the film. Specifically speaking he developed the 3D camera system used in the film. (Most of the barrage of shit 3D that came after this movie was created in post-production, not shot with actual physical 3D cameras like Cameron did.)

TL;DR - I don't give a shit if Cameron doesn't come up with the story on his own. He has a rock solid reputation for creating innovative and ground breaking technology in some of the most renown films to date. Simply put, the guy can execute and delivers. Sign me the fuck up for Terminator in 2020 done on his watch.

Just saw it tonight. Never saw the TV series but I would rate it above Salvation a bit and below one and two. It has a few plot holes left unexplained which may be filled in with sequal's planned. Overall I enjoyed the action and the twists in the time lines and how they weave together. Would not mind seeing more sequal's of this.
