Where would you rank it among the the first 4 and the tv series?
Below 1&2 obviously, above 3&4, hard to say regarding the TV series since anything with Summer Glau makes me squeel like a little girl....

Just saw it tonight. Never saw the TV series but I would rate it above Salvation a bit and below one and two. It has a few plot holes left unexplained which may be filled in with sequal's planned. Overall I enjoyed the action and the twists in the time lines and how they weave together. Would not mind seeing more sequal's of this.
Yeah some plot holes, but as you say they might be filled in. Thinking about it, I am actually suprised at the care they tried to take to account for the twists in the timeline, made it feel more like a try to stay true to the series then a pure cash-grab.

I guess it's not saying much that it's better than 3 and 4, but if it's not worse then I guess I'll be seeing this tomorrow night.

Went see it last night. First off, it wasn't very smart releasing this thing on a Tuesday. There were probably 25 people in the theater at most.

Movie fell in between 1-2 and 3-4 like stated earlier. They really went out of their way to explain the time travel paradox, which kind of surprised me albeit it got a little confusing at times. I figured they'd phone it in with explosions and cgi and just gloss over how they got to the point they were at, but I think there were at least 3 times they went in detail of how it all came to be. If you're a terminator sucker like me it's a 8/10. Judging it without that bias it's probably 6.5/10 at best.

This is a sweet review.

A pointless but not unentertaining diversion, Terminator Genisys exists for the same reason a dog licks his balls: because it can.

I agree. I don't care if the ideas aren't his, Cameron is an innovator and pioneer in the special effects world. You see the progression with that water tentacle thing in The Abyss, which was the first CGI water AND first computer generated three dimentional character put in film. That was the foundation for the much improved T-1000 liquid metal villain in Terminator 2. Cameron won an Academy Award for Visual Effects for each year he made those two movies.

Titanic's film legacy speaks for itself.

Then you also have Avatar. While the plot and story are pretty "meh" and very unoriginal, again the visual effects were stunning and he pioneered the new technologies that had to be created specifically for the film. Specifically speaking he developed the 3D camera system used in the film. (Most of the barrage of shit 3D that came after this movie was created in post-production, not shot with actual physical 3D cameras like Cameron did.)

TL;DR - I don't give a shit if Cameron doesn't come up with the story on his own. He has a rock solid reputation for creating innovative and ground breaking technology in some of the most renown films to date. Simply put, the guy can execute and delivers. Sign me the fuck up for Terminator in 2020 done on his watch.
Also Aliens....

Yeah, Cameron is worth watching no matter what he's throwing out(since I was already forced to watch Titanic). Avatar might have had a shitty plot but it was a really fun movie to watch. No one makes better effects.

Saw it last night. Emelia Clarke needs to realize that the only reason she is popular is because she got cornholed by Jason Mamoa on HBO, not her acting. Aside from her, all of the acting was pretty solid. The time travel plot was surprisingly complex and interesting, with clear threads left for sequels. I felt like it was as entertaining as T1, but that's mostly because T1 had a small budget and has not aged well. Its no Mad Max, but it hit all the right notes and I would like to find out who the other party monkeying with the time line is, so hopefully this gets at least one more sequel.

Just came back from seeing it. Stick around after the theme song in the credits.

Agree with the other comments, has it's flaws but better than the last 2 entries for sure. I'll watch it again on bluray. I found the CGI good for anything liquid metal but had a couple of poor spots. Particularly with the punks, just paint him green and it's the hulk. That and he moves too fluid. It sounds nitpicky but it broke my suspension of disbelief and had me thinking, this is not a robot, this is just CGI.

Same with the helicopter scene, speccy but soulless. It makes T2 stand out even more with the practical effects. Bring back the animatronics and puppets!

saying it's better than T3 and T4 is like saying it's better than when you're hungover and have to shit and throw up at the same time.

I thought it was pretty good. Kept me in suspense the entire time. The mother of dragons and Connors was pretty good and I'm not a huge fan. Fuck the haters. If you're an 80s kid this is a great movie.

Not Mad Max but still shiny and chrome.

It's really hard to compare where it stands among the previous iterations. 1 and 2 were great movies with 2 being one of my favorite action movies ever, so this one doesn't really touch those. On the other hand, I feel like this one did the franchise justice compared to 3 and 4 just taking a dump on it's chest.

Aliens (Predator as well, but I guess Cameron didn't direct that) and Terminator franchise all shit canned with awful third piece and later sequels.

Thanks for bringing up Predator 3, I had wiped it out of existence for a reason.....

What's funny is people like that film.

Predators(3) in contrast to AVP and AVP requiem was pretty good, but that's not saying Predators was a great film, just how dog shit AVP and AVPR were. I mean really the only bad thing about Predators was fat Morpheus acting da fool w/o the ability to act.
