Original ending

McG grins. "Well, that's not really what the ending was."

Actually, the bloggers were on the right track. Except, McG adds, the original ending actually went even further.

"Connor dies, okay? He's dead," McG continues. "And Marcus offers his
physical body, so Connor's exterior is put on top of his machine body.
It looks like Connor, but it's really Marcus underneath. And all of the
characters we care about (Kyle Reese, Connor's wife Kate, etc.) are
brought into the room to see him and they think it's Connor. And Connor
gets up and then there's a small flicker of red in his eyes and he
shoots Kate, he shoots Kyle, he shoots everybody in the room. Fade to
black. End of movie. Skynet wins. F- you!"

F- you, indeed.

We tell the director that this would be the darkest, bleakest summer blockbuster ending of all time. He agrees.

"It's the most nihilistic thing of all time. And Christian went
f-ing crazy, of course. He was insistent that it be done that way! He
wanted the bad guys to win! Can you imagine the oxygen going out of the
theater?! What just happened! It would piss you off! But maybe two
years from now, you'd think it was ballsy. But in the end, it just felt
like too much of a bummer."

If that ending had occured, the movies name would have been even more applicable. Cause you would go through the movie thinking Marcus was the humans salvation. When in reality it was Skynets salvation.

Not only was Salvation complete shit, it was worse than T3 which was quite an accomplishment. A motorcycle terminator? Fuck your toy line cash grabs.

What the fuck is the point of rebooting a series that is based on Time travel causing multiple parallel timelines...

So is this a remake of the original Terminator? Was anyone actually asking for a remake?

You know what's going to happen next

what you have to remember, Cameron doesn't currently control the terminator ip. in all, like 6 different entities have over the years have owned the rights and this will be the 1st movie from the new owners. no one is looking out for the overall story like they were for star wars, so they want to do what has already proven to make money.

reportedly Cameron will regain some if not all ownership in 2019, according to some places, but he has said he has moved on.

As much as I loved it once I finally got around to watching it, I'm pretty confident a third season would have been shit awful. The story started getting retarded as they wound up season 2.

think it all depended on what they did with Sarah. even after the season was over they didn't know what they were going to have do. if they spent the whole show in the future with a 3 way fight going on could have been cool. But they would have probably spent most of the show in modern time with Sarah being all depressed and shit and it would have be rancid.

When Marcus is on screen and John Conner is not the movie is staggering dangerously close to the "Good" category. That's what pisses me off about it way more than T3. T3 is a self-aware self-referential pile of meta bullshit and rehashed ideas. It's exactly what I'm accustomed to getting with sequels. Let's parody the opening "your clothes, gib dem to me" scene! I saw it in the theater and was like "yep, that's every generic sequel ever." It's completely and utterly forgettable and not even worthy of being part of the series when compared to The Terminator and Terminator 2.

But Salvation actually had some ideas in it. It's just that John Conner drug down every single scene he was in. Mygodthat character is awful.

One problem with Salvation that I couldn't get past was the lack of logic in how the future was. It just contradicted the established Terminator facts, in the first 2 movies we saw the future resistance fighters as a Guerrilla force, living in shitty tunnels and crap under the ruined city equipped with small arms only. Some larger weapons were mounted on cars. That was about it. Which made sense in the big picture that Skynet was so powerful and omni-present.

In Salvation they're flying about in Helicopters and have Jet fighters, Jet fighters?? for real?? All of that would have been wiped out in the first few minutes of the Nuclear strike.

Despite that I still like the movie quite a lot. It's a ton better than T3

You have to remember, the future you saw in T1 was 11 years LATER than the future we saw in T4, which is plenty of time for all the nice hardware and vehicles humans had to be destroyed, and for humans to be in a worse situation such that they were hiding (literally) underground and shit. You assume that every military vehicle and weapon would be destroyed in a limited (I say limited because if *all* nukes were launched the planet wouldn't harbor life, and the sky would be full of debris) nuclear war, yet you must be forgetting the large amount of national guard armories we have - Washington state ALONE has 21. And that's assuming that's all we have because all bases and storage facilities are hit.
