Take it for what it's worth, but before this new wave of scribes started invading the EDs a few years ago, the number of instances where I am giving report directly to a doctor instead of through a nurse or medic first, was much lower. I speak directly to doctors more frequently now than I used to. I'm not sure how valuable that is in actual reality in terms of patient outcome, but it does appear to be a thing. I might be mistaking correlation for causation as well.
Level 1's have such an army of motherfuckers in the ED. They got Residents and Interns coming out their ass like a hot biscuit. It seems more physically and personally taxing to be a 'regular' MD in a 'regular' sized ED that is just getting hammered with endless bullshit for hours on end, though. There is no way a scribe isn't useful there. My 2 cp.
