Yoshitaka Amano basically created the visual style for Vampire Hunter D. Thus, he can be forgiven for making lots of FF characters look like thai ladyboys.

Just posting here so it's easier to find the thread thanks to the little green emblem. PS - I was never a huge fan of 10, but I'll give the HD remake a try. I did like FF12 though. It was a longer FF, similar to 7, and I liked that about it.

Way back when I had an NES, I made my parents get me Dragon Warrior, and I loved it. This was probably my intro into RPG's, and I actually beat the game. I'll admit that I needed assistance. One of my friends let me borrow the strategy guide, and I did a full play through in around a week, including getting the "uber badass" hero sword, armor and shield. It was fun getting through that game.

Then I took a long break from RPG's, mainly due to not knowing what a game was going to be like. I had to rely on the boxes cover art. This sent me on the long road of Double Dragon & Mega Man.

I didn't actually jump into Final Fantasy until 7, and I really enjoyed it. I've purchased every game since 7, though. I still have all of them in my cabinet. Fortunately, my PS3 is one of the original style ones, and it still handles PS1 and 2 games. I also played FF3 on my Android phone, and that was fun as well.

I have 100% completion (trophy wise) for 13-2. I want to jump into the original 13 again, just for 100% on that as well. I haven't, though, because my PS did a yellow light of death on me, and I lost all saved games. It really sucked. Since then, I've made backups of all saves on an SD card to prevent that from ever happening again.

I remember Dragon Warrior from the NES. I think I was like 5 when it came out. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but at the last boss/area, didn't they give you a choice to join him or fight him? Being a badass little 5 year old I think I chose to join him and the game just ended dead right on the spot.

I have to give it to the new FF games, at least their plots start out WTFBBQ? rather than suddenly taking a turn to slap you in the face like....ohh... FF5

I remember playing Dragon Warrior before I learned about saving games. I'd just play the first 30 minutes or so of the game over and over.

Poor Cloud, a disgrace his outfit to be used in that sham of a FF game.
Meh, I'm not ready to call it that yet. FF13-2 was a good game, far better than FF13, so I have some faith that this isn't pure shit.

Also, FFX-2, for all its nonsense, was really good gameplay wise (by far one of the best) and this reminds me of that quite a bit.

Yeah this game is gonna suck hard, I'm just calling it now.

Lightning was never intriguing and FF13 and 13-2 sucked pretty hard. Here's to hoping 15 is good.

Inclined to agree, when i think FF i think groups of characters you can pick and choose to your liking and all of which being different. I really hate the way the FF series has gone where you can pretty much tailor them to be identical and nothing to really separate them. I know some people like it more this way but i guess i just rather everyone act/fight totally different and not be alike at all.

To make it worse FF13 was linear PoS and FF13-2 only let you control 2 people + 1 monster? Not interested. Then again im weird and StarOcean 2nd story is still my favorite RPG of all time.

Let's be fair here, 13-2 was 2 people + 3 monsters due to how the Paradigm Shifts worked and you got to raise and customize them from a rather large pool of monsters. They didn't all turn out the same, there was a lot of variation. Serah and Noel also had unique ability sets per class and played each type differently.

Not enough, i like a cast of characters, letting them change style just doesnt cut it for me. As always the production value and visuals are amazing but FF has fell short on likable characters and intrigue. I am pretty sure X was the last i enjoyed. 12 wasnt terrible but it wasnt for me, mainly because of the reasons i said above. Its regrettable that their are not enough high production JRPGs. Some of the other good titles seem to go to handhelds also, which is yet another domain i refuse to tread in.

Type-0 looks really fuckin good, yet it never came stateside - and it was handheld =/

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed that Type-0 was never localized and probably never will be. Maybe someone will do a fan translation of it at some point, probably isn't hard to patch PSP roms.

I'm personally not big on having a huge cast of characters unless it's something like Suikoden where they all get some use. People who you don't actually use in fights ever end up feeling pretty inconsequential to me and I think it makes the flow of games weird. FFX handled this problem pretty well with the in-combat swapping and making everyone feel useful (except Khimari, who sucked in the story and in battle!).

I do wonder how FF15 is going to handle this, it looks more Kingdom Hearts-ish with you controlling the main guy and having people back you up. I don't mind larger casts of characters in the way KH does it either with people joining based on your locale and such. Hopefully we get more information on FF15 soon.
