I would probably count FF12 as having a world map since with how it is laid out, it's basically the same thing.

I forgive FF10 for being linear since it's deeply connected to the story and how the tension rises as you near the end of the "corridor", this worked really well for me.

While it is all very impressive, it will mean fuck all if the story and characters aren't top notch.

Is 12 just on ps2 atm? Never played that one and would like to try it out.
Yes. But you can emulate it on the PC.

It is Final Fantasy Star Wars.

FF 12 is perhaps the FF game with the least memorable characters. The two supposed "main" ones are utterly pointless towards the entire story. Be sure to try the international zodiac version if you do try it. The original one turned all your characters into the same due to a "this is obviously the best build" on the characters, which further added to the blandness of the characters. Zodiac version changed that though by adding different build maps.

Combat system wasn't that bad, but the overall story and characters were really bad. Lightning from the 13 series would be a beacon of light in terms of character development compared to some of the ones from FF12.

They changed the main character twice in FF12 didn't they? First it was going to be Ashe, then Basch, then fucking Vaan - but it ends up unintentionally being Balthier.

Dumbest part is that at the pivotal moment in the story, Ashe getting the nuke materia and having to choose to use it or destroy it, a random character you just met just shows up and destroys it taking the choice away from her and the game ends. This is when the other Final Fantasy games have their twist and then you fly around the world map doing more stuff.

Then you go and kill the human final boss who has done pretty much nothing all game, he isn't even evil bar killing his father. Yet they did introduce a race of manipulative godlike creatures which in any other Final Fantasy game would have been the twist final bosses - infact they actually do build one of them up to be the final boss then ignore him. WHAT!?

Balthier would like to have a suave as hell word with you. Too bad his gun animation made him the worst with guns.

They should have done MORE i agree. But Balthier beats every single char in 13.

Bash should have been fleshed out more. VAAN was a prototype hope. And hope sucks

IIRC Vaan and Penelo were added later in development and were meant to be standins for the player on the adventure. Because of that, they weren't very memorable and actually detracted from the story a bit.

Wasn't aware of that. Explains why they're so worthlessly generic. I loved 12 as a whole though, I really wish they'd do an HD remake for PS4.

I preordered type-0 even tho im still not quite sure what kind of game it is.
Action RPG. From what I understand, combat is closer to say Kingdom Hearts, than typical FF. I'm definitely getting it though, looks pretty solid, and I want to see that FFXV demo too.

I'm interested in Type-0, largely from reading the wiki (not the spoilers stuff, just background story) and knowing it is going to be a KH style game with a rotating main character. That honestly seems kind of cool, and for some reason the whole feel of the visuals reminds me of Vagrant Story, one of my favorite PS1 games. The demo is just sort of something that would be cool hah.

During the Active Time Report Page 4.0 broadcast, Game Director Hajime Tabata gave quite a lot of information about the Episode Duscae demo, which will be released on March 17th alongside Type-0 HD.
Having Noctis warp around, block and evade costs MP.
You can select weapon abilities with the D-pad.
The title screen changes according to real world time between day and night.
Noctis can't go very far into the water in the demo, but he will be able to go further in the final game.
The AI reacts according to Noctis' movements. When he changes speed, his party will too. They also react automatically to the situation.
A red "Encounter Gauge" appears when enemies are close, and battle starts. At that point the marker disappears.
Not all monsters are hostile, but they will defend themselves if attacked.
Depleting MP when Noctis dodges is shown by a blue effect.
Enemies will come in a wide variety of sizes.
When you camp your party grows closer, making new party attacks available.
"Rush" weapons can unleash continuous attacks.
You can change weapons while in battle via the menu.
Yellow markers indicate a quest's destination.
One of the big bosses in the demo is "Behemoth Smoke Eye." You can find his footprints, giving clues to his location.
The demo's main goal is to gather money to get Noctis' car fixed. Killing Behemoth gives a large monetary reward.
Companions will call Noctis over when they see an interesting spot.
It's more dangerous at night than during the day.
Poison is indicated by a red effect.
Food cooked by Ignis at camping spots gives beneficial effects. They include focus and speed bonuses.
After you receive your buffs, you can level up if you earned enough experience.
You can fast travel between camping spots.
If you move to higher ground, you can be safer from enemies without ranged attacks and earn yourself some time to regain MP.
When your HP reaches zero, you don't die immediately. You can be healed by your partners before the red gauge runs out. If it does run out, Noctis dies.
The demo won't run at full 1080p/30FPS, but that remains the target for the full game.
The map of the full game is 10-20 times bigger than that of the demo.
The demo will not have the weather system implemented. That's because weather effects won't be completed in time. Those effects will include wet grass that will dry up when the rain stops.
Noctis has his phantom sword in the demo. The number of swords will vary, and they will surround the character. There will also be normal weapons. You have to actually find the phantom swords during gameplay.
Party attacks are really powerful, but there aren't many in the demo, as they're based on party progression.
When you finish the main story of the demo, that's not the end. There are more tasks unlocked afterwards, and you can continue looking for phantom swords.
Data won't transfer to the final version, but your save data might have an effect in the complete game.
Adamantoise won't appear in the demo. It will be in the full game.
The ending of the demo will include story elements.
The game itself is 60% complete now. Some elements are further along than others.
Next week there will be another presentation from London.
