Mystic Quest HD Remaster

Game is gonna be 8 bucks for PC and Android.
Put me in the camp of people who enjoyed Mystic Quest. It's my go to game if I'm hammered and want to play something simple and fun for a few hours.

With that said, buyer beware on the HD project. I'd have no problem forking over 8 bucks for it but it seems the developer is pretty shady and does not have Square Enix's permission to release it. I would definitely not pre-order it and only buy if it is actually released on a real platform (March 13 according to article below).

edit: after some more reading this is pointing towards total scam. I guess he released a "free" version of this remake a few months ago that was full of adware and shit. Now he's back and trying to get money for it this time. Oh well, was hoping this might actually be legit.

"This was made in RPGmaker" was honestly my first thought when I saw the screenshots. Oh well, the original is just an emulator away anyway.

Yeah, a lot of ppl shit on mystic quest, but it was sold/advertised as a beginner's jrpg. Being someone who watched their older brother play ff1 while still in diapers, mystic quest fit in perfectly for me at my age.

Anyone play type 0 on psp before? Reviews are starting to come out and they all mention time limits to do things between main missions. While the reviews so far are pretty good that worries me because i hate that type of mechanic usually. Wondering how bad the limit is, i like to do everything possible before advancing the story and hate feeling like ill miss things if i dont use a guide to min/max a time mechanic.

This was something I read on NeoGaf about the time stuff:

Between missions, you are afforded "hours" to do things. I put them in quotes because it's not a ticking clock, it's more like points you can spend to perform actions. Talking to special NPCs takes 2 "hours", going out to the world map takes 6 "hours", no matter how long you spend out there.

It's pretty lenient, and as the game went on, I tended to have more time than I could spend.

This was something I read on NeoGaf about the time stuff:
You are able to do anything, mostly if you leave the home base you lose 4 hours. so you can go out and explore and come back. Then quests take like 2 hours off the clock or whatever. I have played in it pretty far on a translated version and its fine.

Something came in UPS today. Haven't been keeping up to date with this thread, so I didn't expect it.

So bros...how is Type 0??
I'm liking it. You really need to make sure that each group of cadets you send into combat has the standard roles covered, or it becomes a lot harder to do things. Like you gotta have a ranged attacker of some sort, as there are often enemies on balconies and shit that you can only reach with your limited ranged specials. And you pretty much always need one of the caster/healer people, if only so the other students don't die when you are evading around like a champ.

The way the fights ramp up in difficulty is kind of neat, but I am still getting used to aspects of certain characters/combat styles and when I was clearing through the Corsi Cave, my level 12-14 students just couldn't survive more than a couple hits from the enemies in there. I most likely shouldn't have been in there, but the "timed" mechanic of the game makes it feel like a rush when it apparently really isn't. Years of games locking you out of content as the story progresses has created a singular mentality for me where I try to do everything before the next story advancement, and with the limited actions you can perform each cycle, I feel like I am unable to really achieve the goals. I'm sure it evens out as the game goes on, and it definitely looks like they want you to replay missions and stuff.

Also, unless I'm crazy, it has an offline training method for leveling characters up when you aren't playing. That is something that... is nice in MMOs or something I guess, but single player console RPGs really shouldn't have it.

I played on emulator and the offline method didnt work. But It does even out time wise. After the first major troop battle it seemed I had ages of time to fuck around cities
