I have the snowcase this year as well, i'll probably pickup the CC/P49 one again (i did those 2 last year as well).

I was looking into that craft one but it's like $130 bucks isn't it? haha

edit: just sawspinnakers is doing one this year too, i'm gonna see if i can find that one despite it only being a 12 day version.

At the liquor store by my place, which is pretty expensive, the Phillips and CC/P49 ones were $100, and the "craft" one was $150. So yeah, none of them are cheap in the slightest. $4/beer is already pretty pricey. $6 is getting a bit ridiculous. But as far as I understand it with the craft one, a lot of those beers you can barely even buy in Canada. I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium for the variety.

There was a Stiegl one for $80, but a quick look indicated that most were pretty lightweight beers. I'd assume that's the one you're supposed to get for your gay uncle.

Jesus christ, aren't you in Calgary? that's some ludicrous pricing. I guess the snowcase isn't so bad because i got it directly from the brewery since i live a few minutes away from it, which ended up being about ~79ish after taxes.

24 pack of Kokanee (a Canadian beer) at my local Costco in WA: $18.99
24 pack of Kokanee in Sun Peaks, Canada: $47.50

Granted there is some ski-resort pricing going on there, but yeah, alcohol taxes up in mooseland are pretty high.

So I have had these two beers this week. This is a subtle beer, the coriander is the dominant flavor. I loved it very mild and calming.

Next I had this Kona Big Wave. It has a very strong grapefruit flavor that I loved. The citrus makes it feel bright and refreshing. If you do not like grapefruit avoid this beer, if you do its a must try.

I find grapefruit beers to be pleasant in general. Especially grapefruit IPAs. That trend needs to keep going.

Went to a bar in Oakland on Saturday that had Lagunitas Born Yesterday on tap. Really enjoyed that.

If you like Unibroue you should give 'la fin du monde' a try. Six pack of that will get you fucked up real nicely.

It's called "The End of the World" afterall~

I saw yuengling had an "IPL" (IP Lager) at the store. I have never seen that in my life.

I'd still take a Yuengling over Bud/Miller/Coors which is pretty much where it competes

Yuengling's Summer Wheat actually is actually pretty good. It's more of a German style wheat beer and one of the best I've had from a widely distributed American brewer.

Yeah, breweries are trying to find new ways to sell more IPA, especially since the "next new style" hasn't materialized. They tried to push session beers hard a few years ago, then saisons, now an uptick in sours, but the big money maker is still IPA (last data I saw had IPA sales are up 47% over last year). IPA drinkers are also the least brand-loyal beer drinker out there and are most likely to try a new beer if they see it. So breweries are trying to find excuses to pump out more IPA-labeled beer and the IPL is a product of that.

I have not found an IPL that I have liked yet, I don't think lager yeasts play well with the typical American hops found in IPAs personally, at least to date I haven't found an IPL that executes the combination well.

US/CAN breweries need to up their game and start doing german style wheat brews that don't taste like turd

Edmonton. Like I said though, the place I saw the pricing at is a high end wine store downtown. Everything's probably 10-20% more expensive there than at a less high end store.

Ugh, not a fan of that stuff at all. Maybe it's the coriander. Surprised to see it's rated so highly on various websites. Another very good Quebec microbrewery is Dieu du Ciel. I've come across their bottles at a few high end restaurants, and liked the 2-3 that I've tried. The only one I can say for sure I had is the P?ch? Mortel, which was absolutely delicious in every respect.

Beers

Apparently that Peche Mortel is one of the highest rated beers around, wow.

There are good American made Hefeweizens and Belgian Wits:

Allagash White
Butternut's Heineweisse
Southampton Double White
Stoudt's Heifer in Wheat
Blue Point White IPA (Ok so not a true wit but I love this beer)

It's just not a very popular style outside of the bastardized American Wheats like Blue Moon

I know it's regional, but the Schell's Hefe is still the best hefeweizen I've had.

Bourbon County stouts come out on Friday... not sure if I want to slog all around Chicago to try and grab some but my good friend who is huge into beer moved to Dubai recently for 2 years so I might try to get some and let them age so I can give them to him when he gets back from the states...
