Going here next Saturday:

OEC - "The Eccentric Brewers"

Looking forward to it.
I'd never heard of them before I saw your link, but man that looks right up my alley. I'll have to drop in on them if I ever find myself out that way.

Heading out to Buellton, CA today to visit Firestone's Barrelworks location. They're finally bottling Agrestic for the first time, and another limited first time release - Feral Vinifera.

omg.. are you serious?

This is THE WORST time of year for beer. Good fucking god I hate fall beers, especially pumpkin.

MOAR HOPS
Let's be honest. For Hop heads there is no bad time of year for beer in the USA. IPA's are such a prevalent, mainstream style here you can always find good, hoppy beer. And most of them aren't seasonal releases. Whereas maltheads are screwed until fall/winter. And a large majority of the good stouts/porters/eisbocks and what have you are seasonal releases you can only get once a year.

Pumpkin beer season is the best season~
I agree, I dont do a lot of Pumpkin beer as I seem to get burned out of it fast. However seeing in the stores and now on tap in the breweries it defines the beginning of the fall for me; my favorite time of year.

Do any of you guys buy beer online? I bought some stuff from LetsPour once upon a time but they closed down. Halftimebeer's selection isn't that great considering I can get most, if not all of that shit here in LA. Seems like none of the places I've found offer a decent selection.

I haven't, because Pennsylvania is archaic in their liquor laws.

Have any of you tried Ayinger's Oktoberfest? It's so good. $60 for a 20 bottle case, but so good. Oh, each bottle is 16 oz instead of 12.

That's not that great of a deal. Even if a six pack of 12'ers was $11 it would be more cost effective.

I never realized how much cheaper it is to actually go to a brewery and buy a growler of their beer.
downside is it gets stale pretty damn quick

wat? What's the price? Normal around here is $10 a growler, or $0.15/oz, which is a $10.80 for 6pk, that doesn't seem to be that much cheaper (especially if you include the initial price of glass).

Yeah, in WA growlers are rarely more cost-effective than other packaging. Reason I still get them is I like collecting them and also you can get beer to-go only available at the tap-rooms. They are also handy to have around to share homebrew when I don't feel like bottling (which is pretty much always). Polishing off a whole growler in a night is no big deal for me, whether that is a sign of my manliness or my alcoholism is somewhat of a debate (between me and the wife anyways).

On another note, man I got super excited when I saw the headline that Firestone-Walker was going to be brewing Pliny The Elder. Was bummed when I found out that it wasn't a long-term deal to help increase distribution. It is really funny when I talk about that arrangement with non-beer folks and the first thing they ask is "aren't they worried that FSW will steal the recipe?"

The Giant Eagle near my house which does growler refills lowered their prices on them across the board. I guess people got smart to the fact it was more expensive per oz than a normal 6 pack. They now have a rotating special of either local brews or some like Fat Tire for about $5-7 a fill up. Then they lowered the refill on all the actual good stuff by a few bucks as well. I don't drink enough beer to really get a growler so I still don't fill it up too often.

Refills are usually quite a bit cheaper than buying a 6 pack or a fresh/new growler.

So I went to the place I linked earlier in the thread this past Saturday:

OEC - "The Eccentric Brewers"

Really good place to go if you're in the area. Excellent beer, knowledgeable staff and surprisingly affordable. Based on the Zymatore project and what kind of offerings they have I was expecting astronomical prices but growler refills are only 8 bucks and fresh growlers are 10. Plus they sell 750ml bottles as well for I think 6. Considering all of their beers are Belgians and all of them are aged in specialty casks that's a pretty great price.

It's $10 but 6 packs in BC can be anywhere from 12-16 bucks, it's retarded

Pumking is goddamned impossible to find around here, it sells out pretty much instantly. I'd like to try it at some point, but I'm not really going to go out of my way to get on waiting lists or drive all over the city checking dozens of places for it. I've been in 3 liquor stores in the past 10 days or so, and all said they sold out the same day they got it. Oh well. Same story last year...and the year before...and the year before, etc.
Schnucks sells it in STL, as does pretty much every store.

finally got around to trying southern tier warlock last night, and wow, it was delicious. I also tried a 50/50 mix of warlock and pumking, and it was great
