VF was boring and SF went stale for years until it was reborn into yet another milking franchise for capcom. While it maybe lame and gimmicky to you it was a favorite to many and it was one of the few titles you could play online vs others when it hit consoles.KI was cool in the arcades due to the CGI full-motion intros and graphics, but the fighting system itself is pretty lame and gimmicky compared to the other fighters of its day.
Oh man, don't get into a VF debate with me - VF was wonderful almost tactical with its pacing.VF was boring and SF went stale for years until it was reborn into yet another milking franchise for capcom. XBAND, fuck yeah. Playing the SNES online was laggy and magical. While it maybe lame and gimmicky to you it was a favorite to many and it was one of the few titles you could play online vs others when it hit consoles.
I used to have my mom drive me 20 minutes across town to a different arcade just because it had a Virtua Fighter machine set up as best 3 of 5 per match, rather than best 2 of 3 like the arcade that was 5 minutes from our house. That extra round added up when you were plunking rolls of quarters down.Oh man, don't get into a VF debate with me - VF was wonderful almost tactical with its pacing.
Yes, it was amazing. Though not as amazing as NHL 95 on Genesis XBand. I put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into that one.XBAND, fuck yeah. Playing the SNES online was laggy and magical.
Yeah, EA would just say no to the massive amount of sales on PS4 because no used game protection. Just spit in the face of profits. You have a brain, use it.Listening to the giantbomb podcast, they have a very good point. While everyone is currently hating on XB1 and loving PS4 over this DRM stuff, Sony has not actually come out and said anything concrete... and it's very likely they'll still have some kinda used game check (otherwise EA would just drop PS4 support). Sony could very quickly become the enemies while MS just reveals game after game at E3.
They revoked their online pass stuff because both consoles will have some sort of used game protection.Yeah, EA would just say no to the massive amount of sales on PS4 because no used game protection. Just spit in the face of profits. You have a brain, use it.
Whether or not Sony has used game protection was not the part of the post I called out for being stupid. They revoked their online pass stuff because both consoles will have some sort of used game protection.
What is probably going to happen is Sony and the PS4 itself will not have used game protection. But there will be a way to enable used game protection on the publisher level. The publisher has their protection but Sony doesn't have to be the bad guy, they can point the finger at the publisher. That is the smart business move. As long as Sony doesn't restrict your ability to head over to your buddy's place and pop in the game and play, they win.Obviously, EA would not drop PS4 support, but it's fair to assume in such a scenario that they would prefer if people bought Xbox One and if multiple consoles owners bought the Xbox One version of their games. The money they could spend and the design decisions they could make to favor the Xbox One could have an impact.
From Sony's point of view, they have an alternative: one one side, they can add a used games management system, with positives that are cold hard cash from used game sales, a thumb up from publishers, being able to plead 'everyone is doing it' when the consumers get outraged but the negative is that they get no edge over their competition. On the other side, they can have no used games management system with a big positive: a clear edge over their competitor in the heart of the public, which can translate in a clear edge in market share, an increased share that can very well more than make up for the money they would have gained by managing used games sales. Another positive is that retailers that rely heavily on used games will try to push their products over those of the competitor. The big negative is that publishers will be pissed off and try to push against you, even more so if you loudly trumpet in favor of used games.
I fear that Sony could feel they have enough edges over the Xbox One to not gamble with the publishers and play the 'everybody is doing it' card.
God I loved KI. While all the nerds were huddled around the SF and MK machines I was owning the computer over at KI 1 and 2. Still have the KI soundtrack CD with some dope beats. Can't even remember what it came with, KI2 for SNES? Maybe some Nintendo Power or something.KI3 will make me get an Xbone. It is a great game for casuals because KI doesn't require you to learn 1-frame links or any of the other hoops Capcom games make you do. No spending hours in training mode to just learn combo's(this shit bores me to tears). The Dial-a-Combo system is just perfect because the system is fairly simple that anyone can pick up with minimal effort.
I do not think it will be a huge system seller but it will sell some systems.
Sony chief executive Kazuo Hirai said today that the PlayStation 4 will differ from Microsoft's Xbox One, which is being pitched as an all-in-one entertainment box in the living room.
"I fundamentally believe that the initial market that we need to make sure we appeal to with any new platform . is really the gaming audience," Hirai said. "They will be the supporters of your platform and they will help propel the installed base."
He spoke at the D11 conference hosted by AllThingsD. He was joined by Jed York, the chief executive and owner of the San Francisco 49ers, and they talked about the fan experience Sony is helping to create for the 49ers' new high-tech stadium in Santa Clara. He made the remarks in response to a question from moderator Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal.
Hirai acknowledged the PS4 will have non-game applications. But Sony will not emphasize those at the outset as it did with the launch of the PlayStation 3 game console in 2006. The PS4 is coming out this fall.
He said Sony would add other entertainment apps, "But that's after we establish the platform as a video game platform. We want to make sure that we are there for the gamers with our PS4 as well. They will go beyond this, but they'll definitely start with gamer first.
He concluded, "For us, it's all about the gamers."
By contrast, Microsoft's Xbox One unveiling had lots of apps that have nothing to do with games, from using voice commands to change TV channels to using Skype while watching shows.
