Yes, no one gives a fuck what you do on wed night. But if one day you do something considered subversive--like say, protesting a bank that's robbed people by forging signatures (Look up robo-signing)....then if they had access to taped records of your activities, they could comb through it and find things that could force you to be silent, or "oops" it might get leaked to the media or some tabloid. This is a real threat to a lot of people who are trying to, you know, actually do important things in their life, Gaige.
And before you say "they won't be recording if you aren't important!"--yes, they will. That's because memory is, by far, the fastest growing component of Moore's law. It's become exponentially cheaper to store information over the last 20 years (Compare a hard drive 10 years ago to a USB thumb drive today.)---right NOW they are already recording anything they feel MIGHT one day prove useful, once the Data centers in the midwest are finished (Yes, there is a massive one being set up), they will record anything they can...And then when the information becomes NEEDED they will go look for it. So it's not a stretch to believe your stupid Xbox camera data will be there.
The fact is all the shit you're worried about Kinect doing is already being done to you. If you really cared that much about it you'd do something about it. You don't. You're just being sensationalist.
I don't give a fuck if the government gets Microsoft to tell them shit they can already find out from numerous other sources. Not if it means I can call audibles in Madden 25 on my Xbox One by just talking to my Xbox.
Except, you know, if your kids do something wrong or your wife does--or any part of your family that would only be caught through a peep into your home. Do you even understand how valuable surveillance within a home is? It's the golden goose of data collection. All other data you give out, is deliberate--you control putting it out there. By talking into your phone, sending an email, doing a search, posting--it all starts with you doing something to record that data (The phone is a stretch, but it isn't always on.)
Kinect is always on--it does not require you to take that first step, it's simply watching. You seriously can't see the difference between it and those other things? Really? (And if you don't believe it's always watching, look up some of the patents MS has for the kinect.)
