Almost all state taxes besides consumption can be deducted for on Federal forms - joeboo needs a decent accountant.

Can't you deduct your state income tax from your federal taxes? Can't do the same with the sales tax. So unless you save more than a third of your income, a 3% income tax means you pay less in taxes total than a 3% sales tax. Anyway, this is way off topic.

You can do either or. In states that do not have income tax you can either save your receipts and take the actual sales tax amount paid or use the IRS tables for their estimated amount for the year. If you pay income tax to your state / local it can be itemized as well but you CAN'T do both incomes taxes and sales tax.

Regardless the total needs to exceed your standard deduction for it to be of any real benefit.

Heh, neat - never realized you could claim sales tax - not that I think my sales tax receipts would ever be high enough since my income taxes are pretty high here in MD, but interesting. Gonna have to bust my accountants chops about never mentioning it (he's a personal friend as well) not that it likely is relevant to individuals here though. [Might be for businesses though]

In a state with income tax it's extremely rare to pay more in sales taxes. That's why your accountant never mentioned it.

It still works out great. Since in TX, I do the Sales Tax deduction, but we also pay rather high property taxes, which are deducted too. I did save all my receipts one year, but the amount the IRS uses as a "base" sales tax deduction was actually higher than a whole year of receipts I saved. Found that funny and just don't even bother saving the receipts anymore.

Brick and Mortar stores won't go away anytime soon though. The government itself won't let it happen. You're not going to lay off millions of retail positions because the stuff amazon, newegg, etc do is vastly automated.

not really a super great launch list, I can't figure out either why GTA5 isn't on that list and I hope Last of Us gets ported over too, don't have a PS3 and that would be a great game to play in the holidays.

also 11/12/13 will be a great launch date just from a numbers superstition point

Yeah the list is pretty meh. The only killer exclusive is Forza honestly. All the big third party games will be on both platforms. I doubt we will see many, if any PS3 exclusives, considering the highly differently architectures of the PS3 and PS4. I guess that's why Sony purchased gaikai.

That's going to be a problem in the near future isn't it?

Ya I don't agree. The big retail store will eventually go away. It is only a matter of time. You can even see it via the staffing in our store. They combined all of the departments (which use to be 7-8) to 3 and everybody within those departments is expected to work multiple "zones". It is certainly coming.

It is a pile of shit. They made it as a goof. Hell, look at Katamari Forever.

This shit is PS3 graphics at their finest.

No, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of humanity thinks it looks like a steaming pile of shit. God, November is way the fuck too far away. At least we should see quite a few more game announcements once Gamescon and Tokyo Game Show hit. Hopefully there's more awesome stuff and less Lococycle.

So, anyone else like, not excited about Grand Theft Auto 5 at all? Like, I really do not feel like playing that game on my X360 or PS3. I think it's retarded that there's no PC version and no cross-gen Xbone/PS4 release. A gigantic open world game on ancient hardware just does not excite me in the least (and god the location they chose is boring). At least most of the rest of the games being released between now and launch are more palatable on current systems.

My current buy list from now till the end of the year:

PS3:

06/25: Deadpool
07/16: Time and Eternity
08/06: Dragon's Crown
08/06: Tales of Xillia
08/20: The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (maybe)
08/27: Killer is Dead
09/10: Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD
09/10: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix
09/17: Grand Theft Auto 5
10/08: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness
10/25: Batman: Arkham Origins
11/05: The Guided Fate: Paradox
11/19: South Park: The Stick of Truth

PS4:

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Watch Dogs
Killzone: Shadowfall
Knack

Yup. Retail is on its way out. It isn't going to happen overnight and "specialty" stores like Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. are going to go away a lot sooner than combination stores, but it is definitely on the decline.

Sean, you're really interested in Knack? I looked at it as kinda gimicky. Outside of the original PS4 announcement back in March or whatever, I haven't looked at any trailers for it.

Is it any good, or just something else to fill your shelf?

I don't think it'll be great, but it looks decent and Cerny made it while designing the PS4 so I want to check it out. Plus, for variety it'll be nice to have a little game like that.
