Ps3 also has that copyright protection on it because of the blueray that causes allot of movies to be blocked.

Thats why you see allot of "Is this PS3 compatible?" in the comments of allot of torrents.
Cinavia isn't a big deal because it's completely incapable of examining a DTS stream, and 384kbps AC3 is garbage compared to the 1.5Mbps DTS requires anyway.

I seldom use the PS3 to stream from my computer so a little bummed because I am moving the PS3 to the bedroom TV but not a big deal. It has been months since I used the media server capabilities.

I'll probably convolute the subject but the question is floating around in my head...

As far as I know most of the ways I stream media today from my NAS are NFS/SMB and not DLNA. And when I did use the PS3 I just browsed to the directory of the NAS through one of the menu trees.... was that DLNA? Can, or does, the PS4 support NFS?

FYI, Travelstar Hard Drive = Hitachi. Western Digital bought them last year, and Travelstar is the mobile line of hard drives that Hitachi makes now. Hitachi HDs have always been a solid product in my experience of having them off and on throughout the years of building PCs.

Well, it's possible that it will play video stored in a MP4 container but nobody besides Apple freaks use that shit. Audio codec would still be a problem since it obviously can't play MP3 out of video containers either, since they aren't paying FhG IIS for a license. That rules out 99% of AVIs, and MKV is automatically out since Sony has never supported that container. They didn't mention it but I doubt they're paying for an AAC license either, and that's the most likely audio to be found in a MP4 container. Will it be able to pass a DTS or AC3 stream untouched to your receiver over HDMI like the PS3 does now? Nobody knows, but I kind of doubt it.

It shouldn't be any fatter. Product page says it's another 9.5 drive, so it should be okay:Travelstar 7K1000 | HGST Storage

If anyone has any experience with the reliability of HGST and the Travelstar drives I'd appreciate hearing about it. They seem like a better buy than the WD Black atm (Similar performance, larger size), but I have no idea how they hold up under use.
I use aTravelstar 500GBin my PS3 and have had no issues. I've had it since the beginning of the year, when I signed up for PS+, and I often leave my PS3 running for days or weeks on end.

Hrm, will definitely have to consider the Travelstar then. Definitely worth a couple extra bucks to go from 750GB to 1TB since there's similar performance if it's a reliable drive.

75% of the unwashed masses that play CoD every year have no idea what those numbers mean in that ad.

Eh I doubt it. Not only is 1080 a pretty common figure for media but even if you don't know that it means rows of pixels you still know that higher = better.

But does the general, casual, game-playing public even know about this XB1 720p/Ps4 1080p crap? Probably not. They see that ad referencing 60FPS and 1080p, but why? Compared to what? Those numbers just stated by themselves with no frame of reference mean nothing.

There's one number the general public always pay attention to: the price.

Yeah, but slamming opposing products in commercials is illegal in a lot of countries. They can't say "We do 60/1080, while XBone only does 60/720!".

That pic will be retweeted a ton, and the retweets will add the context. That way they are saying it without saying it. Pretty elegant solution.

Heh, that's Sony marketing's job to figure out and educate people on. The problem with any kind of polling we have access to is that anyone who answers an internet poll on IGN or gamespot for "Do you know/care about resolutions?" is they are informed gamers.

I think we'll see more commercials that say shit like, "CoD:ghosts, 1080p/60fps only on ps4, $400". There's some time between now and the end of the christmas buying season to educate buyers on this.
