I guess I never realized that DNLA was such a big deal, on the flipside I don't think consoles are targeted to people like you if you don't really game on it.

It really just blows my mind that Sony thought this would be a good idea. No one even bothered to ask about this functionality since the reveal because it seemed absurd to think it wouldn't have this basic capability.

Does it even support video playback at all?

I play 1-3 new games a month on my PS3 plus I have a backlog of stuff I bought or got from PS+ and never finished, and lack of DLNA client is still an automatic PS4 deal-breaker for me. Fortunately they've got about a year to pull their heads out of their asses before any game I give a fuck about is likely to be released.

It's not a dealbreaker since my TV and PS3 have the functionality already, but it's very odd that it's not a launch feature. It's a pretty "basic" one.

I was hoping the PS4 could replace my Boxee... I guess I'm not really missing the functionality, but it does seem like a pretty dumb omission. They don't gain anything by having me stream my music on my desktop and I'd rather spend $60 on a boxee than $10/month on Sony's media plan.

I have 4 LG Smart TVs but its really just the fact that it wont do all i believe it should considering its "next gen". Its also not the sole reason im being turned off by the system. I mean i "will" get it but it prly wont be the day one i already paid for, i may cancel that and get it next year when it has more than 1 game i want. I bought that pulse headset a few months ago for like $150 when they said it would work with the PS4. However they have then since back pedaled to say it will work "eventually". I'd have never dropped the money on it had they not said it would work, so i was already a lil bothered by that alone.

I really am just nitpicking, however im allowed to since in the end its my money. Both the xbox and ps4 were paid off the very same day off announcement so its like whatever, il get it eventually when Deep Down or Dragons Dogma 2 is released.

Wow what a joke.

My guess is about a year from now it will require a subscription service to use or something. They're just exploiting every opportunity to rape its user base for as much money as possible with features that should be standard. Pretty much sums modern gaming up in general.

I'm a bit late to the party but Column you go a PC right now for $1000 I'll buy the next gen console for $599AUS. Let's compare my consoles graphics and games to your piece of shit 7 year old computer that can barely run now. Your argument is completely invalid because you are comparing a PC that you will upgrade once every 2 years to a console that will have a life-cycle of 10 years.

The lack of media functionality is fucking ridiculous. It doesn't concern me directly anymore, since I use an Apple TV for that now, but I used my PS3 as a media center for years.

Way to drop the ball. XBone just took a 5pp expected market share jump.

Quick hdd question. SATA 3 refers to 3 gb/s correct? So there is SATA 6, there is just no way that is supported by the PS4?

If SATA 3 is the highest for the console and we have to use laptop hard drives (stupid they didn't make room for desktop versions), then the wd black Sean linked is definitely the way to go. $75 on newegg.

Gotcha, thanks. Link the hdd you recommend again, if you would Sean. Pissed I can't slap a 3 tb drive in there and just never worry about it
