Anyways, my "predictions" about the PS4 crushing the Xbone on release aren't some "gut feeling" or fanboy wish fulfillment crap. They're educated guesses based on the compiled logistics of insider confirmed manufacturing problems, distribution areas, and an immense amount of customer pre-order number reports and pre-order unit allocation reports. There is an overwhelming amount of people out there, both in the US and Europe, saying that they are getting far more PS4s in stock to sell.

Through the year? There's going to be a very big gulf and I doubt Microsoft is going to catch up. The manufacturing shit is going to bite them in the ass.

It's not really aobut what's fair to the manufacturer, I just think it'd be better to only consider the US since most of us live here. Including the world would increase the error in our predictions too much.

Well as I see it you have launch day (pre-order argument certainly should only include this number), sales up to and including Black Friday, holiday sales (up till New Years, gotta include the post-Christmas sales). Should be one of those. Probably easiest to get numbers for the first and last to see who ended up being correct.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking we'll have a good estimate by the end of January 2014.

I kind of want to run a second, longer contest that lasts until January 2015 just because that's a more realistic time period to determine who wins the first year of the console wars.

You'd probably have to make the contest either to the end of the fiscal Q3(end of December) or end of the fiscal year(end of March 14). You'll probably need quarterly numbers to get 100% accurate numbers.

Just remember Microsoft's fiscal year is July to June and Sony's is April to March. So "end of December" is Q2 for Microsoft and Q3 for Sony. That shouldn't have an impact on picking an end date, of course, but it could be confusing.

End of December is going to be an interesting figure, because it includes the holiday sales -- and we don't have a good sense yet how supply constrained Sony and Microsoft are. After that, I think sales figures for major games are going to be almost more interesting...
