You'll want to keep your PS3 as a Media Server for the time being. DLNA will be added to the PS4, but it won't be in for launch. You'll be able to play blu-rays and rent/buy movies on it just fine though. It'll have Netflix/Hulu/etc too.Ok, so please excuse me in advance for not browsing through 500+ pages of opinions, and I assume most of the votes were formed early, but what is the (relatively) final consensus on which platform/box will be better? I currently own a PS3 but am certainly not married to the platform whatsoever. Besides the occasional game that catches my interest, I mainly use it as a DLNA player, blu-ray player, and to rent/but movies from the PS store. Last game I really liked was The Last of Us.
If it helps, I have ZERO interest in sports games or 1st person shooters (seriously, fuck 1st person shooters already). Love RPG's (NOT cutesy JRPG's tho), adventure games, and strategy games ( a la X-com). My main complaint with the PS3 was that all the RPG's were Japanese style, but never really compared the X-box selection.
Also, any plans to ever add mouse support to the PS4/XOne? I love playing games on my big TV in the living room, but any game that also exists for the PC I just can't stand to play on a console because the controls feel like crap compared to a computer mouse.
I don't know what you're talking about with the PS3 not comparing to the X360 on RPGs. The X360 pretty much only had Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Tales of Vesperia in its first couple years as exclusives and had no unique RPGs after those for the entire rest of the generation. The X360 paled in comparison to PS3 exclusives on just about every front.
Mouse/KB support beyond Chat is unlikely to ever happen.
The PS4 will likely be the better platform. It's undeniably more powerful and significantly easier to develop for. Sony also has a far better track record with exclusives and they are doing an amazing job with getting Indie developers onto their platform. The Xbone is a weaker, more expensive machine and Microsoft has a bad trackrecord with exclusive games.
