For the most part, I agree. But there are some real differences.
Like compare the Oriental Zodiac to the right one. HAHA, but the western one. Ours separates the year into portions. But the Oriental one has that whole "Year of the Monkey" thing going on. There is much more of a focus on communalism and generational shifts, where ours places a greater emphasis on individualism. This stuff is pretty close to the most ancient surviving remnants of pre-history voodoo that we've got and they do reflect a real philosophical and cultural difference.
The chinese invented gunpowder, and even the gun, but they kept using crossbows up until the 19th century. It took some crazy fucking europeans to adopt and refine them in organized warfare. The Chinese just weren't going to do that. Internal combustion engines... they existed. You can find them (incredibly) even in greek antiquity. But it took a german miner who was just fucking tired of being wet and the sump pumps being such giant pieces of ineffective shit to spark a revolution.
