Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, and Aasif Mandvi are the only ones still in-house that I'd like to see at the desk. I'd prefer Jones because I like his interviews the most.
Hodgman is hilarious. He might be better as a sort of Colbert character, play his deranged millionaire thing for all it's worth. He could absolutely pull it off, but I don't think it would be right for The Daily Show. Luckily he's also absolutely hilarious out of character and just off the cuff. His podcast, Judge John Hodgman, lets him really flex his chops and it's outstanding.Of all the suggestions I've read in this thread so far the only one I really think would work would be John Hodgeman.

You know who I'd actually really like, Paul F. Tompkins. I think he'd be amazing. He's absolutely hilarious and he'd be perfect filling Stewart's shoes with a similar style but different delivery etc. I just don't know how interested he is in politics etc. He's super busy on the west coast doing comedy shows and podcasts etc too. Still, now that I've thought of him I think he would be the absolute best choice if he wanted to do it.
His Pedo Charm is endearing.he should change his name to Paul Hymie Leibowitz then he'd probably get a late nite gig
it doesn't help him that his mustache and face kinda makes him look like a pedo
But that doesn't mean he couldn't. It's not like when Jon Stewart was coming in we all went "Finally, we'll get some real political commentary!". I mean, his TV history was MTV shit. I'm picturing Tompkins unleashing his sarcastic and patronizing voice he does, but on politics, and the idea makes me happy. The only thing is that he doesn't really ever get into politics.
I am sure Hodgman is being talked to about it. It's not like he's a stranger to the show. If he doubles down on his Elitist asshole stick he would be fine. No, no, no... Conversation needs to go back to Hodgman, he needs to be the future of the show... TDS becomes a hybrid of Colbert and TDS - win and doesn't leave Larry an odd man out.
Look at anyone and say who would replace the "feel" that TDS + Colbert had and come back with anything other than Hodgman, I dare you. (+ what Larry adds, which I feel is great, but completely new territory rather than something similar to the old since it's mostly roundtable)
