When are they going to revamp the vet rank system? I would like to come back to check the game out. I had fun leveling 1-50.
The revamp to the VR system is following a phased approach. Phase 1 was nerfing of VR difficulty and already implemented. Phase 2 is supposed to get implemented in 1.4.0 patch and gets rid of Veteran Points and replaces them with regular Experience Points. Phase 3 is when the Champion Point system goes in. Not many details about it except that it will be similar to Diablo 3 Paragon system. I'm guessing October/November timeframe.

Layoffs:Elder Scrolls Online hit with layoffs, Zenimax will continue to 'invest heavily' | Joystiq

"As is the norm for games of this type, we had ramped up a large workforce to develop a game of vast scale, and ramped up our customer service to handle the expected questions and community needs of The Elder Scrolls Online at launch," Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines told Joystiq. "Now that we are nearly 6 months post launch, we have a thriving online community in a game that runs smoothly."

Hines continued that the studio has adjusted staffing to meet the ongoing needs and continues to operate with a large work force.

He added, "We remain strongly committed to The Elder Scrolls Online, and continue to invest heavily to develop new content for PC players, prepare the game for its console launch, and handle our planned expansion into important international territories. As for customer service, we continue to operate large support centers in Hunt Valley, MD and Galway, Ireland."

Hows the bot situation lately? Thinking of coming back.
Bots disappeared completely about 2 months ago. ZOS put loot drops from bosses on a long cooldown to stop the army of bots camping the spawn points. They also put in a cap of 3 character deletions per 24 hours. They also made a lot of the crafting mats sell to a vendor for 0 gold.

When combined all together the changes made it extremely difficult for the botters to make any money.

Anyone still playing can attest to the validity of this statement? It sure wasn't true four months ago.

I have heard through rumors that bots are virtually non-existent now.
Eh, for what it's worth, it runs smoothly for me. I just leveled my 2nd character to VR12 and I did it through questing - I had zero quests I couldn't finish. No crashes to desktop, lag, etc. I do get one problem, but I think it's my hardware - I start to get stuttering sound effects every now and then, which progresses to bad graphics lag, and I actually have to reboot my machine for it to go away. I think I might have a conflict with some drivers for my sound card/graphics card. I dunno. I can't find other people with the problem, which is why I think it might be me. It only happens every now and then, so I haven't really worked very hard to figure it out.

The game does have some problems, but I think the stuff they've said they are working on will address most of my concerns. The Cyrodiil capital city (basically a modernized darkness falls), champion system, justice system, and spell crafting system to be exact.

I can see why a lot of people might not be patient enough to wait for that shit. I don't play as much as I used to. I'm basically waiting to see how good the aforementioned content patches pan out, or for the next best game. I took a good look at what's out, like Archeage, Wildstar, but nothing really seems better at the moment, and my small guild is still in ESO, so it's good for now.

You can only launch an MMO once. Players aren't going to come back in droves a year after launch because you fixed all the shit they tried to tell you was wrong with the game in Beta but you didn't listen. It amazes me that MMO companies continue to have massive layoffs but idiots like Paul Sage who tank a game with their "Vision" or lack there of always tend to land on their feet.

At best a game can hope for other anticipated games to fail, people not have a reasonable alternative to fall back on, and then decide to give it a shot again. I see that a lot where SWTOR is concerned.

Yeah and they aren't even trying to fix the foundational problems with the game. They're just tweaking, fixing and adding new systems.

I've come to the conclusion it's unrealistic to expect any MMO to launch smoothly with 100% of their systems perfectly designed and balanced. Anyone who expects that at launch and gives up on an MMO within the first month or two is never going to be satisfied.

I took a break from TESO to give Wildstar a shot. I had fun with the game but there were some issues with Wildstar that caused me not to renew my sub. It would be juvenile of me to refuse to ever play Wildstar again even if they made improvements to the game that addressed my concerns.

BTW the continued success of SWTOR disproves the notion that MMOs only get one shot at launch. That "one shot" sentiment also applies to only a certain type of individual. The dirty stinking casuals with spouse, kids and full time jobs may have a different perspective compared to someone who can devote 4+ hours of gaming 7 days a week. I've lost count of the number of MMOs I have played, quit and come back to after post launch improvements and content are added to the game. I'm on my 4th or 5th iteration of returning back to WoW after a 3 year break from playing that game.

Lastly, all observable evidence indicates the player population in TESO is still very strong. There is no way to prove how many people are subbed since ZOS doesn't release that info. However, going by player density at social hubs like crafting stations and banks (which aren't phased) plus PVP populations bars, the number of players is still very strong.

The hardcore "hit it and quit it" crowd who give up on MMOs within 30 days aren't subscribed anymore, but they have been replaced by droves of Steam players who didn't start playing until after the launch stability and the bot infestation were no longer problems.

Expecting it to launch smoothly and balanced is one thing. The community seeing huge design flaws a year before release, reporting them over and over and finally being told to stop reporting it, and then seeing those same flaws cripple a game is a totally different thing. ESO was, from a design perspective, better some 9 months before release than what it was at release.

Aside from the nameplate issue, what huge design flaws are you referring to? In the past you have posted PRX' recommendations to improve PVP so I assume that is what you are referring to.

Also, when you say the "the community", are you referring to a majority consensus amongst the entire closed beta community or just the individual opinions of the PRX members who were long term closed beta testers?

Over on the official Blizzard official beta forums there is a massive whinefest going on amongst the segment of the player community who actively post on the beta forums complaining about the complete revamp of WoW across multiple game systems. For the most part Blizzard is blowing them off. EQ1 was notorious for doing that as well with "The Vision". Whatever the MMO, I'm inclined to believe the devs should stick to their guns versus listening to all the armchair devs who want every MMO to be designed to meet all of their individual wants. Main reason I say that is because as a software engineer myself, I have a general idea of what kind of effort it takes to redesign a system that has already been coded and put in a build for testing. You are talking about pushing the schedule way to the right and a lot of money in resources. If there is a legit design flaw in a MMO, those are almost always corrected in future patches months down the road, otherwise the game would never get released.

I'm inclined to believe that devs (or atleast the lead devs) need to be punished for molesting IP's like this game did.

Mud crabs drop battle axes. Defend that one.
