Sooooo.. I wonder what my new avatar will be? Don't get me wrong, I think the game will be decent, and I'll be playing it, but I'll be quite shocked if they can overcome all the negative press and have massive sales. Also, I was banking on them releasing at the same time on the consoles. Seriously, if it's just 2 months difference, they should have held off on the PC release and squeezed in housing or something. Oh well, I don't wanna armchair dev this thing, but I think their PR/Marketing team needs to, like, kick it into 5th gear.

how many do you need it to sell? they will still get a massive number based on the Elder Scrolls name alone.

Guy at work asked if I'd seen there would be a new Elder Scrolls game that's going to be online. I asked what he thought of it all. He was excited by the prospect and made it sound like he'd buy it if it ran on his laptop or he could afford a new console by release. I explained some specifics on basic ideas and he said "but that doesn't sound like Elder Scrolls at all!" and admits he would have bought it without having read much into specifics, because he's like a lot of gamers, he works two jobs and has a family and doesn't have time to nerd it up on gaming forums (what little free time he has is spent actually playing games, not reading about them or theorycrafting). I imagine a lot of people are in the same situation where they'll buy ESO just based on the assumption a company isn't going to push out a stillborn game in the ES franchise and any ES game is going to have a certain amount of deserved hype. Because it's ES, so it can't be that bad, right?

Everyone that has been testing this has done so on the PC right? Is that part of why it's bad, because its more of a console game? Genuinely curious.

That could explain some of the switch to target-based combat over aiming, but target-based combat is a mainstay of MMOs. (And Skyrim was just fine on consoles). I don't really see much consolitis in the problems laid against TESO. It's just mediocre from the basic design to the implementation.

NOT when you see what they've done in the latest internal build. You guys are gonna be FLABBERGASTED at some of these changes coming down the line. I'd go get in line and reserve a copy NOW.

Because they're going to bury the rest in the desert right next to the pile of ET games?

My nephew just told me that he and his friends are super excited for this game. I guess he has never played a mmo before but loves all the Elder Scrolls games. Mods them out and has played them all a few times. I didn't have the heart to tell him what you all think of it. Don't want to be the one to crush his hopes.

I get the feeling that there are a lot of ES fans out there who are going to be playing mmos for the first time because of TESO. It will be interesting to see what they think a couple months after the game goes live.

Magic patch incoming...
Good Sir, you mean to say Miracle Patch. You see, they'll disable the beta debugging code and Visual Basic GUI interface (I said interface twice!), thereby freeing up 89% of the GCPU proccesseees. Viola!
