I think they were going for realism instead of buck rogers. Stealth special ops ships and military combat ships would be trying to be difficult to see.
yea, give up that realism so ppl can actually see and enjoy the shit you make, like how shit got was w/ the battle of the bastards so fucking dark

Realism was like 90% of the appeal of the space battles. Stuff dies fast when hit in the right spots, no magical shields to mitigate damage, most of the stuff is from long range vs. close quarters. Only time they wanted close quarters was vs. the stealth ship since they knew they were outclassed at range but had a chance in CQB

Realism with the alien space goo? I mean it's not a stretch that space craft might be painted other colors when compared to half the shit that goes on...

Semi-realistic aliens, yea. Well, more realistic than any other science fiction aliens, outside of Three-Body Problem. You miss what the goo actually is and what it's purpose is, if you stopped watching half way through season 2. All you saw was what human scientists were doing by experimenting or rudimental changing what they could with the original stuff.

Previously in this thread, people have said the books take even more pains to not stretch physics too much. For example, in the books (I guess) all the people in ship combat are immersed in fluid when making high G maneuvers, instead of the injections they get in the show.

Also, Hoss hating the best (or maybe second best) character in the show is a take worthy of Chuk...

the chairs have jell padding and still get the juice, but it comes from a bunch of needles in the suits.

Right, I was hoping for more alien shit, at least some more exploration in the portal. The martian and belter drama pales in comparison to the alien tech.

When I initially watched this series as it was released, I was pissed they killed hot space chick riding dick in 0 G right off the bat. Turns out it was pretty much the only hot chick the entire series too.

Not quite. The only instance of a full immersion in fluid (including lungs, kind of like The Abyss) to survive high G are in the final books and it isn't for combat, it is designed to ensure specific individuals can survive an insane sustained high G burn to get the fuck out of dodge.

The "juice" injections are from the books - they're basically a drug cocktail that helps mitigate the effects of high Gs for a time and keeps the users alert enough to function. However, they aren't 100% foolproof. The way Alex died in the show is actually how another character died in the books - basically the effects of high G and the drugs not preventing him from having a fatal stroke/embolism.

There is more of that in the final books. The show ended on book 6, then there is a massive timejump (like 30+ years). That is one reason people said the show ended at a good point, the final books are almost like a sequel to the original 6 Expanse books. The show actually teased some of more of the alien tech in the final season - you may recall a scene of Cortizar (that dude from season 1 that was the last protomolecule scientist kept alive when they assaulted the ring station) looking up at the sky and saying they found it, then the final final teaser at the end of the series finale showing some alien looking structure begin to light up. Also that subplot about the alien "dogs" that can repair the dead using protomolecule tech.

final 2 book spoilers

Basically that renegade Mars faction finds a planet that has an ancient shipyard that they figure out how to operate and use it to construct some giga advanced hybrid warships. It is the same planet with those alien "dogs" that repaired the dead. They then hyper accelerate their technological advancement and the leader basically envisions using the alien "dog" tech to make himself into an immortal god emperor and he has designs on basically conquering all habitated worlds under his empire

Then they quickly discover why the protomolecule aliens aren't around anymore after they start playing with too many of their old toys lol
