So, I've never really been a fan of Carl's Jr., but it is one of two quick places I can choose from when I'm in a particular area around lunchtime on a workday. The other choice is Jack in the Box, and I've been pretty turned off by them lately, so I went with CJ yesterday. I ordered onion rings because of some recent talk here about them and they just sounded good. I also got a Double Western Cheeseburger, my favorite of their offerings.
The burger was ok, but bland and more cardboardy than anything else. But the onion rings, God. The worst fucking onion rings I can ever remember tasting. Obviously old oil, and overcooked to hell. Some of them it seemed like the onion had completely cooked away somehow or it never made it into them. I couldn't finish them they were so nasty.
Cut to about 8 hours later at home, I start getting some seriously painful stomach cramps. 45 minutes of agony and black mud later, I finally feel like all the demons are purged from my system, and I pretty much feel back to about 80%. I played it safe and just had soup and crackers for dinner, but it was pretty much gone already.
Moral of this story is that now I can't stomach the thought of Carl's Jr. anymore either. I should have gone 10 minutes out of my way to the Wendy's, which is legit one of the best fast food places I've ever been (varies by location of course). No matter what I get at this Wendy's, it is always good. But more often than not ANY other fast food burger place I go to, JitB, CJ, McD's, BK...they all have something underwhelming if not downright nasty. Only In 'n' Out is as consistent, but they are too far away for work lunches, unfortunately. So I guess I'll just go to Wendy's every single time I go out for a burger (well, mostly spicy chicken, but you get the point), even though my coworkers think that is dumb. Let them deal with the black mud, I'm over it.
