So, I've never really been a fan of Carl's Jr., but it is one of two quick places I can choose from when I'm in a particular area around lunchtime on a workday. The other choice is Jack in the Box, and I've been pretty turned off by them lately, so I went with CJ yesterday. I ordered onion rings because of some recent talk here about them and they just sounded good. I also got a Double Western Cheeseburger, my favorite of their offerings.

The burger was ok, but bland and more cardboardy than anything else. But the onion rings, God. The worst fucking onion rings I can ever remember tasting. Obviously old oil, and overcooked to hell. Some of them it seemed like the onion had completely cooked away somehow or it never made it into them. I couldn't finish them they were so nasty.

Cut to about 8 hours later at home, I start getting some seriously painful stomach cramps. 45 minutes of agony and black mud later, I finally feel like all the demons are purged from my system, and I pretty much feel back to about 80%. I played it safe and just had soup and crackers for dinner, but it was pretty much gone already.

Moral of this story is that now I can't stomach the thought of Carl's Jr. anymore either. I should have gone 10 minutes out of my way to the Wendy's, which is legit one of the best fast food places I've ever been (varies by location of course). No matter what I get at this Wendy's, it is always good. But more often than not ANY other fast food burger place I go to, JitB, CJ, McD's, BK...they all have something underwhelming if not downright nasty. Only In 'n' Out is as consistent, but they are too far away for work lunches, unfortunately. So I guess I'll just go to Wendy's every single time I go out for a burger (well, mostly spicy chicken, but you get the point), even though my coworkers think that is dumb. Let them deal with the black mud, I'm over it.

I don't mind CJ at all. I think it's one of the better fast food chains. The ghetto ass one by the Powell BART station has a special place in my heart. Sometimes 24/7 availability wins out. And the only other 24/7 option around there is Jack in the Box - which deserves a hard pass.

I ate at Brothers a couple days ago, anyone else ever try them? I had their smokehouse burger. It was fantastic. That was the first time I was there, I'll be going back for sure.

The name is not appetizing, but the Gator Balls there are fucking awesome. Smoked chicken stuffed with pepper jack cheese and jalapeno wrapped in bacon and fried. It's a magical appetizer. But beware, they're like pizza rolls. Cut them in half and give them time to cool.

I haven't been to Chipotle in a few years now. I used to go during university as one was on my bike route home... until I biked to my girlfriend's house at the time and Qdoba was instead in that direction. That being said they eventually replaced the Burger King on campus with a Pollo Tropical and I ended up eating that whenever when I didn't bring anything.

Menu Groups TropiChops® I was all about the Tropichops for me there.

On that SAME route. Publix Deli has the best crispy Chicken Tenders on demand ever. Never did understand the praise for Publix Subs though. I thought the bread was terrible.

Which bread? The white and wheat are lacking - but the five-grain is solid as hell.

And part of making the best Publix Sub is actually getting them to make you an entirely custom sub. i.e. for the Boar's Head Roast Beef they use the BH Top Round by default but you can request BH London Broil or Londonport in place.

I honestly don't remember now. I just remember I heard Publix Subs praise a lot and had them like 4 times and the bread was always terrible. I probably just took a menu item because I dislike custom choosing everything that way.

Tipping is a thing at Starbucks? I rarely go there so this is pretty surprising to me that it's the norm. Are they really paying their employee's under minimum wage?

The big story this week in the STL was that a Shake Shack is opening here. Owner is a St.Louis native. It's going into the neighborhood known as the Central West End. I probably won't ever eat there. I can get great burgers, hand dipped shakes and frozen custard concretes a lot nearer my home and with better parking.
